Hello,
Finally have got round to setting up this bloody blog!
Well we have made it across Western Europe overland from London to Prague!
The aim of our trip is of course to try to travel overland as far as possible from London to India. We are taking the slightly less travelled path from Moscow through Central Asia
Kazakstan, and through China and Tibet.
We hope to be in India by Christmas time and everyone is welcome to come and join us there if they want. It would be fantastic to see our friends again in India!
After India the next leg will be to Australia, the path yet to be decided depending on money and time.
Ok I admit it I nicked some pictures from the set ones on the blog. Have a look at our photo albums on this site to see some of our own photos along the way.
Having a great time and it feels longer than 2 months already.
The intinery and highlights so far..
- Amsterdam by ferry and train - stayed with Rich and Rose
- Paris - stayed with Gaby and Tiery
- Archachon and French Atlantic coast for a spot of beach and camping in pine forests
- Bayonne and Biarritz for a mix of grit and glamour and a good surf
- WWOOFing in French Pyrenees for 4 weeks (sounds dodgy but is just volunteering on organic farms for board and keep). Got the real extremes here - first 2 weeks we stayed on a farm run by
well meaning but a bit crazy vegan permaculturists and went back to the middle ages learning how to grow vegtables, look after an apple orchard and hand scythe. Scything actually became quite
addictive after a while. Met the lovely sheep dog called Lumi who inspired the name for this blog. Next 2 weeks was with some Brit /Aussies who were building a timber Queenslander in French Pyrenees.
Interesting construction work and managed to prove that the human body can survive on a diet of cheese and copious amounts of wine. - Marseille - hot and sticky and a frenzy of markets and activity
- Venice by mistake and by default - they say never go there in the summer but it was fantastic - had our own little studio apartment cheap and had a little 'holiday weekend' of great food
, classical music, beach and sunshine - Venice to Ljubljana (Slovenia) - good beer, what more can I say..
- Budapest (Hungary) where we had a good much needed wash for 6 hours! Bloody hot inside and outside the thermal baths!
- Mala Fatra mountains in Slovakia for a good dose of nature after all those cities... had a great walk.. would love to come back one day to those Tatras mountains..
- Prague - a week of chasing visas, and setting up blogs, drinking cheap beer and exploring this lovely city. Stayed with Jana and Matt who have been very kind to us and shown us a great
time in Praha - thanks guys!.
Quick summary I know but I know how people don't want to read for ever on these sites.
With visas in hand, next stops are Warsaw, Vilinius, Riga and Moscow.
Hope all is well. Hope it has stopped raining in England. Hope it has finally started in Australia. Thinking of you all.
Love and thoughts,
Andrew and Samxxx
