Two cities down. We are currently on a train bound for Copenhagen and I thought I would use the time to get caught up. Yesterday we woke up early and ate breakfast on our ship so we could catch a free walking tour at 10:00 AM. We made it to the tour just in time and got a great tour around the city. I really cannot recommend these walking tours enough. They are a great way to get some background information and insider tips on the city you're staying in and it always gives you good ideas on what do while you're there. They have them in all major European cities if you ever get the chance! After the tour, we went and grabbed lunch at the Food Festival I had mentioned. It was basically a ton of food trucks set up around a stage and a bunch of tables. Felt just like Austin. Beers were actually reasonably priced and the food was all good. Between two trips to the festival we tried a Swedish lobster roll, shrimp and toast (a weird staple here) and some sort of fried fish. We then walked over to the train station to book our train for Copenhagen. The rest of our day was spent exploring Old Town and walking around Stockholm. We did get to learn about a strange Swedish tradition. When kids graduate high school, they cram into the back of dump trucks, crank up techno music and cruise around the streets of Stockholm dancing, chanting and spraying beer everywhere. Pretty cool. We capped off the night on the rooftop bar of our hostel cruise ship drinking beer and watching the sunset. While the room is tiny, and warm and not too nice, this view was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had in a hostel / hotel in Europe. We ended up walking close to 28,000 steps so we were exhausted!
This morning we woke up and made our way to the train station to store our luggage. We then went all the way back across town to eat breakfast at a place we read about online. It was started by a couple british guys and was really good but cost $77 for breakfast! Everything is expensive though, so I am ready to get into Germany where prices are more reasonable. $13+ a beer will break our budget. Afterwards we did one last walk to through old town and caught the train to Copenhagen.
