So here we go, the end of Zurich. On to OKTOBERFEEEEEEEEST!
While that intro sounded all pumped up, it's really just a bit of a tease. Nothing major really happened today. I'll warn you now. But you've read this far, you may as well read the rest and at the very least get my first impressions of Oktoberfest.
So we got onto the place and arrived in Munich. After Sarah directing us the exact opposite direction we needed to go for a k or so we finally corrected course and got to the hostel.
Once here we unpacked and walked back past most of the route we'd already taken and finally got to the grounds.
Here's the best way I can think of to describe Oktoberfest. Imagine the Royal Melbourne Show. Now imagine that it's about the same size as it used to be, except there's no crappy fields there. It's all just stalls, shooting galleries, food, drinking tents and roller coasters. About 3 or 4 full size roller coasters (apparently the premium mix for a festival is beer and a plethora of rides designed to make you throw up).Oh yeah, and now imagine that there are actually people there. It's jam packed full of people so you can barely move and there are stunning girls absolutely everywhere dressed in the traditional gear. These girls are giving the Swiss a run for their money.
We had a walk for a bit, but there was nowhere to grab a seat (you have to be seated to get a drink) and so we grabbed schnitzel burgers for lunch and I had a half meter bratwurst in a bun for dinner. After this I bought a t-shirt, a souvenir and then we decided to rocked out in the hardest way possible. We did laundry.
That's all for today. It's an early night now to get ready for tomorrow's big day!
Fun Fact: I've found the best way to guarantee an armrest when you're on a plane next to a stranger. You just rest your arm on the armrest next to theirs so you're touching their arm, but you can still get away with just looking like you're trying to share it. It invariably takes less than 5 minutes for a stranger to get so uncomfortable with body contact with someone that they give you the armrest all to yourself. Check and mate.
