Onwards to Broken Hill how exciting to reach NSW a first for most of the kids they are very excited.A history lesson how did Broken Hill get its name?
Broken Hill = Broken Muffler
Broken Suspension
Broken Budget
Broken Schedule
Broken Relationship
We head back to pick up the newly fixed vehicle only to find a very disgruntled fixer snapping that we are half an hour early (we had our clocks changed too early), "how can I be expected to fix the car when you are half an hour early and stay out of the shop it is off limits because you will sue me when you fall into the pit, go away and come back later! So we went and sat on the footpath with a sign and a thumb - 'Brisbane or bust'
Anyway after many hours of waiting the car is ready to go, or is it?No it's back to the shop for more tweaking which means we are stuck in Broken down Hill for the night.Cannot go on to the next stop because the kangaroos are after us and will be targeting us the whole way - nasty kangaroos.Anyway got to get some sleep ready for a new uneventful day."Pappa piggy"
We are at Broken Hill.I do not want to come here ever again - here is why!We stopped in Broken Hill to get the exhaust checked, but then Dad wanted to put something else on the car to stop the car going down so low. After that was done it was rubbing on the gas tank but they could not fix it until the next morning. We are meant to be in Coonarbarabran but instead we are stuck in Broken Hill.I quess that's why it is called BROKEN Hill."3rd Little Pig"
Today we were supposed to go to Coonabarabran but we only got to Broken Hill andthen everything started to go wrong.Mum heard a strange sound in the muffler and Dad took it to the shop to check it out.Our car had been sitting too low and traveling up the mountain over the flood dips it had banged a hole in the muffler.Dad bought a thing for the car to make it sit higher and found someone who could put it on.We went to the miners memorial on top of a big slag pile, but then had to go back to the man because the part was rubbing on the gas tank.We stayed the night and left in the morning.I feel like renaming it "Broken Car"."2nd Little Pig"
Broken Hill was not meant to be a stop in our journey, but because of car trouble we stayed overnight. We hung around waiting for mechanics all morning and early afternoon. After all this was fixed we went up to the Miner's Memorial at the top of old mines scrap heap - it was a full size hill. They had a visitor's shop and a giant chair that was about 3m tall. The Miner's monument was shaped like an opera house with a roof that gradually got wider. This building was dedicated to the miners that lost their lives mining at Broken Hill.We also visited the Bells Milk Bar -it is a retro 50's milkbar. We all had spiders-but Dad had a caramel milkshake as per normal."1st Piggy"
