Brisbane to Byron Bay
On leaving Brisbane our first destination was Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast to see if it lived up to all the descriptions we had heard. It did not let us down. Fantastic beaches with golden sand, azure blue sea and surfers. There are some very attractive high rise developments with old single or two story houses mixed in. Still don't think I would want to spend too much time here except for the beach. We then just drove down the rest of the Gold Coast to Tweed Heads, stopping occasionally to take in the views. On to Byron Bay for a later lunch than anticipated because we forgot the time difference between Queensland and New South Wales. NSW is one hour ahead of Queensland.
Still, despite this hiccup we made it to the beach for a couple of hours in the sun. Batteries recharged. The beaches are superb and Paul even went in to challenge the breakers. Byron Bay is a really lovely place, lively and relaxed; we can see what so many people come here.
Dinner in Byron Bay upstairs on the verandah of The Balcony restaurant watching the sunset was a great end to as super day.
