Hi everybody!
I'm currently in a backpackers hostel in Cairns, N/E Australia, watching Micky Flanagan ahead of two busy days exploring the delights of the Great Barrier Reef. But before that, I wanted to check in with an update from the past nine days in the West of this beautiful, vast - and surprisingly green - land.
After two nights in Perth, we headed east to the mining town of Kalgoorlie to meet with Chris and Kelly. Jet lag was hitting me like a ton of bricks at this stage, but after a good sleep on the train we were ready for our Western Australia adventure.
Chris took us around the immense KCGM pit in Kalgoorlie on day one, before we hit the road to the sea side town of Esperance, four hours south. Coinciding with my birthday on the Thursday, we enjoyed two nice days here before another trek - this time further west - to the towns of Albany and finally, Margaret River. The latter of these is the home to what must surely be the most impressive groups of wineries and breweries in any one isolated area of the world. Had a superb and inevitably wobbly day sampling the delights of the grape on Saturday before returning to Perth Sunday and flying east on Monday night. Had a great time with Chris and Kelly - thanks so much to both of them for putting on such a fantastic trip for us.
I'm having a few issues getting photos uploaded at the moment but hopefully I can sort that out in the next day or two. Until next time... MD
