JJ The above poem, which is transribed around the edge of the picture, was written by Ernest Dowson. It is called " VITAE SUMMA BREVIS SPEM NOS VETAT INCOHARE LONGAM" Which is Latin, and translates as "The brief sum of life forbids us the hope of enduring long (from Horace)". The translation from English into Italian was kindly undertaken by the Italian poetess Signora Mariella Orlandini Buffatti,
