Week 1 and done!
It has officially been one week since I left my heart in Michigan. I have so much to tell you about! My first day in after a 10 hour drive resulted in a tiny hotel room that would now be my makeshift home until training is complete. My roommate Lena is a quaint country gal from Idaho. She is 20, married and works on an alfa alfa farm with her hubby. super sweet girl and a graduate from ERAU prescott campus. No one could ever compare to Kalyn as a roomi though. How much I miss coffee and make-up in the mornings with her. I miss sharing quotes and fun stories to start our day off with a smile and mama willis leaving us lil suprises to head off to work with. (yeah 20 and STILL we get lunches and notes made for us haha!!! "oh Kay, we should never grow up!")
First day of ground went smoothly, we met the rest of the new crew (8 of us to be exact) everyone ranges from Idaho, Vermont, Georgia, Ohio, New York and a few other places. The very next day we hit the skies to fly some lines, I guess thats to new joke: "ya doin' some lines today?" haha I guess thats a good joke to some. anyways, there is not much in Rome to do besides fly around the old airforce base and climb all over old C-130's.
Sunday we had off and all hit up the theater to see JackAss the movie, super disappointed, the first one was funnier. Monday was Mechanics ground and we tore off a cowling and went over systems and on the road maintenance that we are expected to keep up with. sort of made me wish I had my A&P license so I could do the work myself. Tuesday we traveled 2 hours to Rochester NY to tour the company we would actaully be taking the photos for. Pictomety Imaging. SUPER talented engineers, and YOUNG! I was so happy to see such young fresh faces working on our future technologies! It made me think of Lindsay and Tom and how much I miss our intellectual conversations :(
That night, since we had so much down time and it was raining, I got super homesick! I really missed my mother & sister, it calmed me down though just reiterating that they will always be there for me, I love my family! Then, I started really missing the IFL pilots and sneaking over to Bobs house after work :( I cant believe I actually miss his smart ass remarks and Homets shortness haha! (sorry buddy I had to!) but most of all I miss my adventures with Joe :( I actually teared up over it. Oh well, the show must go on, if I could just keep my head in the clouds I wont even think about it!
So now, I sit here in the hangar updating this sill blog with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky, 23 years old and i can STILL be grounded!!! the winds are picking up to a direct cross wind gusting to 30kts :( sooooo, no flying today grrr what am I going to do? I guess I will go running and finish reading "Goodbye Glamour Gals" super awesome book about the infamous Jackie Cochran and the start of the WASP team of women aviators in WWII! (Lindsay, totally recommend you read this!) maybe ill venture over to the national monument in town (have no clue what it is though haha!)
Until next time, I love and miss you all, hopefully some more exciting stories will happen that will make this a better read. so tralala!!!!
