I forgot to mention yesterday that Kep is just run by packs of wild dogs. So many that they scared me a lot and at night you could just hear howling like wolves!!!
Anyway...We arrived in Kampot after a very bumpy 40 minute journey by tuk tuk. All Cambodian roads are truly awful. Yes, I know it's a third world country and roads are the least of their worries but after complaining about Vietnam roads I should put it into perspective! We both felt sick getting out from bumping around so much. It's pretty scary as well as everyone just drives on whatever side of the road has the least potholes so you have no idea what's going on, I really should film it. We headed for one guesthouse and actually stayed there. Amazing. It's just ok but it is the hottest room ever. Not sure how much sleep I'll get!
We came to Kampot to do the $10 (£6) trip up to the abandoned ghost town of Bokor high up a cliff overlooking the town but all the trips were $22 (nearly £14!!!) so that changed our plans. To say that Cambodia is such a poor country the prices for tourism are unbelievable. You cannot get cheap food (without getting food poisoning) trips or transport here. Accommodation can be cheap but you pretty much get what you pay for, we don't seem to have had a good deal so far. A country as popular as Thailand can give you much better deals, especially with food, transport and trips. Laos was a poor country but apart from the capital, there were deals on accommodation, food and some activities. Here they just seem to think that tourists have a never ending money tree. I don't necessarily mind that-if we were on holiday we'd find it cheap but there are a lot of backpackers that can't afford these prices. Well, rant over.
So, with not being able to do our trip we are leaving tomorrow. Ill get over not seeing empty houses and the view. This is the shortest time we've spent anywhere apart from a transport stopover in Laos.
We did a 2 hour sunset cruise tonight along the river so that we'd done something but it would have been pretty rubbish if Ben hadn't have kept me entertained with general chit chat. There was nothing to see along the river and the sunset didn't happen until half an hour after we'd gotten off the boat as well so I don't know which cracker timed that one.
Our drinking ban was going so well (day 5 dry) until we were given free beer tokens by our hostel. If we were staying tomorrow night I would wait but we're not! So we failed in style with a jug of beer for tea then back to our hostel for a free night-cap.
Tomorrow we head to Sihanoukville-the best that Cambodia has to offer for beaches. There is apparently a tourist section and a backpacker area. I hope it's nice. We might be tempted onto an island from there depending on the sea and the weather but if not that will be our last stop in Cambodia. I hope I can get my tan back on track!

Ben You were definitely the best thing about that boat trip. I'd have thrown myself overboard otherwise! Beaches here we come!! x
