Friday 3/23: MV Explorer
“…it’s better at Sea…”
I’m not sure if you have all realized that for the next 5 weeks, I’ll be in a different country EVERY WEEK! How crazy is that? That’s my kind of traveling! It’s funny how sometimes I don’t realize how amazing this trip really is, yet other times it hits me and I just have to say, “Wow, am I seriously doing this?” I don’t know how I’m going to be able to adjust to normal life again after this…Sure, I miss home and Ithaca and the American lifestyle, but other than a couple days after South Africa, I haven’t really been homesick. There’s not too much to complain about when you’re stuck on such a great ship in the middle of the ocean!
FYI -- The U.S. dollar = 43 rupees! I have 1000 rupees that I got before the trip, and I’ll be exchanging about $50 American on the first day. Overall, I’ll have about $75 American money then, and that should hopefully get me through the week!
We had our usual cultural pre-port this evening. It was great! The inter-port family and college students helped put together some dance routines and skits to help get us pumped up and prepared for India. By the way – Indian hip hop music is AWESOME! We’re all excited to buy cds! I’m going to have quite a global collection of music by the time I get home! Different professors got up to discuss a couple different things with us tonight to introduce us to things we’re going to encounter during our visit. In India, bargaining is a MUST. I can’t wait! We learned a couple things about food and eating…I might encounter some problems because you’re expected to eat with your right hand (by the way – it’s with your fingers, not utensils!) and serve yourself with your left. It’s pretty convenient that I’m LEFT handed, huh? Hmm. I’m so so sooo excited to try the food – I hope I like it!
P.S. This is HUGE! Archbishop Tutu will be doing a Easter sunrise service!!! YAY! I already know what I’m wearing on Easter morning. I got a light blue/flowery sundress in Brazil that will do just fine. We had to sign up for the service and there’s just about 200 people signed up! They’re trying to have the service outside on one of the decks, but it might end up being in the Union if there’s too many people. I personally hope it’s outside..We’ll see!
