College Trip
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
I should've known this trip was trouble when we booked out tickets.
After being accepted to two different schools, for two different majors, my mom thought it would be best for me to tour the campuses to see if it would help my decision and to get a feel of what I liked better. We booked our tickets to fly into Myrtle Beach about a week before, with the total price for my mom, my friend Sommer, and my ticket coming to $666… and we were leaving on Friday the 13th.
Day 1 (Friday): We flew out on the 13th in the morning, and landed in Myrtle Beach, where we were staying for the night. We got our rental car and went and checked into our hotel called Breakers. Our room over looked the water and we saw dolphins almost right away. We brought our stuff into the room and then changed before walking the beach for a little while.
After walking the beach, we came back to the room and everyone changed and got ready and we drove to Coastal Carolina University. We toured the campus and it was really long, but fun and boring. I fell in love with the campus and it made me really excited for school. After the tour, we were able to go check out the science hall, where my classes would've been. That's where we ran into a super cute professor and got to see a dead baby great white shark!
We left there and drove to Walmart to get some snacks for the car, since the next morning we were driving to Florida to tour another school. We filled the cart with snacks and I even bought a Coastal Carolina Sweater. The school just felt so right and made me so excited.
When we got back tot the hotel room, we were all exhausted and decided to order food in the food. We ordered Hungry Howies, and while we waited for it, Sommer fell asleep. When the food came, I woke her up and we ate, and then we all got ready for bed.
Day 2 (Saturday): We woke up early the next morning and began our long car ride to Winter Park, Florida. The car ride was long and boring and tok all day. The best part was writing down all the different licenses plates!
When we finally arrived in Winter Park, it was late and Sommer and I were just excited for the free cookies from the Double Tree Hotel we were staying at. We quickly unloaded and went to bed, since we had to get up early the next morning.
Day 3 (Sunday): We had to wake up early again and get dressed, since today we were taking a tour of Full Sail University. Before we started the tour, we had to get checked in and watch and introductory, before being split up into different groups. I was accepted and enrolled in the Show Production program, so that was the group we were put into. We got to se what the classrooms would look like, even though I wouldn't really call them classrooms, and got to meet some of the teachers. We also got to see all the things we would be learning to do, like how to do lighting, video, sounds, stage production. Frankly, it was all very overwhelming and scary. After the tour was over, we went to a presentation and heard some people talk and saw some clips that made me really excited. It made me realize that if I ever went to Full Sail, it would not be for Show Production. On the other hand though, Sommer fell in love with the school, but because of her mom, she was struggling to keep it together and choose what she really wanted. After we left Full Sail, we went back to the hotel and packed up the car and drove to Orlando, where we checked into our hotel right across the street from universal and unpacked and bought tickets for universal. We were staying the Hotel's South Tower in room 911
Day 4 (Monday): Today is the day we were going back to Universal! Sommer woke up not feeling well, but we all got up and went to breakfast. We made our way over to the Park and right before we went in, Sommer said she didn't feel well enough to go, so we sent her back to the hotel in a cab. I was really bummed because now I didn't have anyone to go on the rides with besides my mom and she wouldn't go a on a majority of the rides. I still had a pretty fun day and I went on a ton of rides!
Day 5 (Tuesday): We got up super early and loaded the car and began the trip back to Myrtle Beach to catch our flight. The car ride was really long and boring and Sommer still didn't feel good. When we got back to the airport in Myrtle Beach, we found out our flight had been cancelled because a bird hit the plane and all the airline was going to do for us was recommend some hotels. We had the option to either rent a car and drive home, wait two days for another flight, or drive back to Atlanta and fly out of there the next morning. We decided to get another rental car and drive down to Atlanta and Stay with my grandma for the night and leave the next afternoon. So we got back in the car and drove back to Atlanta.
Day 6 (Wednesday): We were supposed to be back at school today, but instead we were stuck in Atlanta. We woke up the next morning and got everything ready for the airport. As we go to start the rental car to leave, it wont start, so we have to jump it. We finally get on our way to the airport and return the rental car. After getting through security, we found our gate and waited to go home.
