OVERVIEW
DC is an awesome town. It very young, very educated. Very political. Lots of history. Lots of great restaurants. There are so many museums and historical sites, it will take multiple trips to see everything.
I lived right outside of DC for a short time in college... and what's not to love? Easy public transportation that will take you anywhere you could possibly want to go (anywhere that is worth going). Plenty of Starbucks locations (yum - pumpkin spice lattes are in season!).
We stayed in a downtown Marriott close to the Verizon Center. We walked to the Capitals game.
WASHINGTON CAPITALS VS. PHILLY FLYERS www.capitals.nhl.com
Can you believe we lost to the Capitals? Ugh. I will say that they do have spirit. More than I can say for other teams we've gone to see. And, they did not like us wearing our Flyers gear.. another good sign for the passion meter.
Bad? I think I know more about hockey than the fans that sat near us. They cheered and boo-ed at all the wrong times... IE had no idea what was going on. Oh, well. We'll get 'em next time.
WASHINGTON MONUMENT www.nps.gov/wamo
Going into the Monument is free... not sure how long this will last though! Take advantage while you still can!
The Monument is a symbol of our freedom and was built in honor of George Washington... more or less his contributions to the nation. I've been there a few times before, and every time you're there, you can't help but feel the importance of the history that went into this structure. Its very cool.
CAPITAL BUILDING www.visitthecapitol.gov
Let's play a game.. who can pick out the secret service guys?
Lots of tourists taking pictures! Not ashamed to say, we were one of them. When you visit the capital building, its a great time to get a picture of the Washington Monument in the distance. Once you get too close, its tough to get people in the shot.
CNN BUILDING www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNN
Taking a walk down memory lane! I was an Intern here back in college!!
SPY MUSEUM www.spymuseum.org
This is every big kid's dream. No photography! We walked to here from our hotel!
Lots of cool facts and gadgets that I didn't even know existed. They do some interactive-type spy games.
If you like spy movies, then you'll like the spy museum. Even if you don't, chances are you will still like it!!
PS. Pay attention to everything!!! You will be quizzed!
FINAL REVIEW
I will never give D.C. a bad review. DC = MUST SEE for everyone, kids and adults!
Make sure to check out the Capital Grille when you are there!
