Have spent 2 nights camped in Etosha National Park. The highlight of which was the floodlit watering hole. Just sit and watch as elephants, giraffe, rhino, jackel, zebra and springbok all take there turns to drink from the whole. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing. It is so quiet you an actually hear the animals sipping the water.
I stayed at the watering hole until late both Friday and Saturday night, watching the sunset and just chilling out watching the "African TV". On Sunday morning I went early, 5.30am to see what was there as I could hear lions roaring. There were no animals at the water but the amazing sounds of various animals including lion coming out of the darkness beyond the waterhole was so atmospheric. Just wanted to take it all in. Keep having to pinch myself that this is all real. So incredible. The sunset and sunrise here, as everywhere were really lovely.
Leaving Etosha we have made our way to Swakopmund. Camping overnight, under the stars in an amazing place. It was like a canyon filled with massive boulders. I said I felt like I was on the film set of 'honey i shrunk the kids" and we were in amongst elephant poo! That is just what they looked like. Boulders several hundred metres high. They were brilliant for climbing too. So we spent the afternoon in this amazing playground, clambering and climbing. The sunset was truely spectacular and we managed to get on a high rock to get some brilliant photos. Marita is getting pretty good at perspective pictures!
I am now in Swakopmund. Got here via Cape Cross Seal Colony. Last night Heini took us out on a township tour of the township he grew up in. We sampled local food from the market traders, and had a traditional meal cooked by his mother. The local children came and danced after dinner. It was a realy good evening.
