Just arrived back in Nairobi after 2 days safari in Masi Mara. We arrived Sunday afternoon and immediately went on an evening safari in the game park. We were incredibly lucky to see a small pride of lions feasting after a kill. We counted 8 lions in total and were able to get quite close. Also saw giraffe, zebra, wardhog, vulchers and lots of wilderbeast as it is still the migration season.
Yesterday, Monday, we went on a full day safari with the aim of reaching the far end of the park to see hippo and crocodile which we did. Again we were so lucky as we had berely entered the park when we came across elephant, adults and calves. Throughout the drive we also saw, giraffe, ostrich, buffalo, secretary birds AND a leopard!
We camped in the Masi Mara next the the park which was brilliant. No light polluction and no sound of cars! We had Masi warriors patroling our site all night to guard against animal attacks
Today I fullfilled a lifetime dream. I did a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Masi Mari with a champagne breakfast at the end. The sunrise was fantastic. But I have to say the hightlight for me was the private jeep ride back to our base. I needed to get back to my group, who were doing a early morning game drive, by 9.30am. My driver was under instructions to do his best to get me back urgently so we could start the journey back to Nairobi. I felt like I had the whole park to myself as I stood on the back seats of the jeep with my head up through the viewing roof speeding through the park. On the way we came across a cheetah hunting zebra. We were able to drive close enough to get some good pictures but didn't have enough time to see the kill. It was still a very lucky find.
Tomorrow we have another early start as we head off to the serengeti and Arusha park. Just time for a few beers before though.
Just the Rhino left and then we will have seen the big 5, so fingers crossed.
