It is 168 nm from Busan to Nagasaki and we arrived at 7.05 am on a moderate 22 c day. The ship recognised Anzac Day for the Australian and NZ passengers. We had looked forward to this day because our tour includes the Atomic Bomb Museum and famous Peace Park. It is worth remembering that in WW1 Japan was our ally, since they and the USA had reached the 1912 accord which saw Japan take over Korea and US get bases in the Phillipines. So it seemed a good place to spend Anzac Day. Strangely enough the local inhabitants do not seem to be bitter about the war. according to our guide the city as a whole took the attitude not to hold grudges. She said that Hirisohima city held diametrically opposed views that no one should be allowed to forget. After seeing the Museum all we could say is how could we do that to civillians in another country. However no mention is ever made in Japan about the atrocities that their Imperial Army visited on other countries. (We had some survivors of Sandakan aboard and in Korea we were openly told that people still detested Japan.)
The Museum of History and Culture which, related the development of Nagasaki from the 16th century due to being the sole window open to foreign countries during a long period of national isolation.
While we enjoyed our visit the downside to the start of the day was the absolute schmozzle of the face to passpot immigration inspection. It took almost 2 hours
