Our SE Asia Tour 2013
Stopped at a couple of places along the way to our morning walk to take photos and also to have morning tea at a great view point of the distant mountains.
Our walk, the Gangte Nature Trail, started near the monastery at Gangte and meandered along for 4 km, first along a lovely pine forest and then down into the glacial Phobjikha Valley.
The Phobjikha Valley is home to the Black-Necked Crane who migrate down south from Tibet to spend the winter in 4 different valleys in Bhutan. After lunch we visited the Black Neck Crane Information Centre for more information on these rare birds and watched a very interesting video giving us more information on their migration patterns, mating and habits during their winter sojourn. They return to Tibet at the end of March for their breeding season so we were disappointed to have missed seeing them.
Stopped briefly at the Gangte Goemba (monastery) which was built in 1613 - another beautifully decorated complex of buildings.
Continued on to our destination for the night at Trongsa via the Pele La pass (3,420). The weather turned foggy and rainy so it was a long drive there. We did not arrive at our hotel until 7:30 pm so it was straight into dinner.
