Slept through 3 alarms before getting up at midday, had to quickly shower and go and grab some water and enchiladas to make it in time to leave to go to the football! felt pretty ropey and the bus was about 200 degrees which wasn't great but got to the stadium for about 1400 where we met up with Ross, Elaine didn't fancy it guess she went shopping or something! Was really busy outside the stadium, people selling all sorts of stuff random food and drink stalls set up by individuals grabbing some cash which was quite cool! Eventually got into the stadium for about 1500 and it was pretty much empty! Soon realised the game wasn't kicking off till 1700 so didn't really understand why we were there so early!! Just talked and did the touristy thing of taking photos and stuff, was like being a Chelsea fan just with ought the prawn sarnies! About 10 minutes before kickoff the whole stadium suddenly filled up, was massively over the maximum attendance, people were stood and sat everywhere they could find room, in the walkways and stairs!! The atmosphere wasn't that great a bit like going to watch Spurs or someone crap like that, not nearly as good as we thought it was going to be and the actual football was shocking! The first half River couldn't string any simple passes or crosses together, like watching a league 2 team or Pompey it was that bad! Half time was 0-0 and luckily the 2nd half was much better, the standard went up and as a result the crowd got more involved, how you thought South American crowds would be! 'Puta' 'culo' and 'mierda' were shouted a lot, luckily im basically Spanish now so could understand what they meant but if you didn't know the meaning you could have thought it meant other things!! River plate scored after about 70 mins and the whole crowd went mental, the atmosphere was incredible, singing and dancing for the rest of the game! Was quality for the last 20 mins, shame they didn't score after 10 mins and the crowd like that for the whole game! A Lanus player got sent off in the last minute and when the game ended everyone was still in the stadium dancing and singing long after the full time whistle. Seemed a bit strange as back at home everyone files straight out, it turned out they lock everyone in the stadium and then let out each section at different times!! Real safe there then, if there was a fire or something....!! Didn't leave the stadium for 60 minutes after the end and didn't get back to the hostel till about 9ish! Organised to meet up with Ross and Elaine in a steak restaurant at 11pm for my last meal and night before flying home :( Met up with them and shared a few bottles of really nice Malbec to go with my 900 gram steak, literally filled up the entire plate! Didn't have anything else to eat and was quite a nice last night of my trip, Massive amazing steak, nice wine and a nice chilled out night with good company!! Had to go back and pack my bags and have an earlyish night!! Got up and said my emotional goodbyes to Laurie and Joel and got the bus to the airport, the promo girls in duty free were literally the hottest models in Argentina so my 2 hour wait was quite nice!! Got on the plane, had 4 seats to myself and had a pretty nice flight home.
Good Bye South America was a pleasure!!
