Day 28: Ground Zero
We had another late start this morning due to getting back late after getting stranded in New York last night. The plan for today was to visit Ground Zero and do some shopping. There are so many shops in New York!
We headed for Preview Museum which is a museum that houses all of information and archives about 9/11. It was a very sobering experience and a good preparation for the site itself. We saw a timeline of the day, some wreaths and a moving documentary where relatives talked about their fallen relatives in a loop. We then went to the main site and passed four new World Trade Center in progress of being built.
The main site contained two pools with a waterfall cascading into a vortex in the middle. The two pools were exactly where two towers crumbled to the ground. Names of all people who died were etched on two pools and it sickened me to see how many lost lives including children were needlessly wasted in the name of terrorism and wars.
There was also an inspiring Survivor Tree which was found amongst the wreckage still standing so it was transported out where it kept on growing and eventually transported back to the site. It was a good message to show that the world is still standing. We also met deaf Chinese tourists and spend a while navigating pitfalls of Chinese Sign Language!
It was time to hit shops- we visited few stores including Bloomingdales and Century 21 before we eventually returned to our RV early unlike our last few nights eventually returned to our RV early unlike our last few night's shenanigans!
