Thurs 6th- yeah i went for a quick bus ride up to mt victoria, weather was gorgeous so i walked down thru the forests and along the beach. there were some amazing views of both sides of wellington, and it was good to see the panaramas of the city in sunshine- i even broke a sweat! the afternoon was lazing around and gettin ready for the bus the next day, before the buses came in and saw a few ppl i knew. the evening entertainment was arranged and then a quick meal was followed by beers, pool comp, whiskey and then some dancing and talkin, a pretty cool night- not too hectic and met some awesome ppl there too.
fri 7th (ferry to picton/nelson)- early start after not too much sleep, but the ferry was easy if not spectular (thou the views did get better as we got nearer to the south island). it took 3/4 hrs to cross, the sea was steady and nothing too big really. as we went thru the marlborough sounds the views and rolling hills were really good, not as good as i expected but still impressive none-the-less. after we got our stuff from the ferry it was onto a full bus (well comapred to the north island it was!) and over towards a winery for lunch and some free wines! we also had some very nice shots there too! the views overt he vineyards and their lake were cool, and the wine was ok too- the best was the riesling thou still not a great white fan. made it over to nelson for the evening, and we had a few beers before hitting the sack, nowt impressive really just a quiet nite after the night before.
sat 8th (abel tasman)- today was the kayaking/hiking thru abel tasman np. today was the first section which was a 6hr kayak thru the sleep to look at seals, seabirds and just enjoy the np from a diff angle from the walkin track. the weather was again gorgeous, and i can see why its the sunniest place in the south island! the kayaking was too strenuous, esp cos there was no seabreeze, but it was a great morning/afternoon of fun. i was riding with some american women who worked for the nz goverment in trade relations, and there was some interestin convos. when we got to bark bay hut, only three of us were stayin-nicole, nuno and moi! so there were a few hrs to kill before tea so we walked to see the waterfalls, and then made the standard pasta and sauce, before chattin the night away with the other travellers that were staying there- the beds were weird thou cos they each took 7 ppl per bunk, so 14 per room! oh and i drop my phone in the urinal- still works :-)
sun 9th- today was the 2nd half to the trip, the 22km walk back to maraheu via the np again. there were a few problems which could have arose, but we timed our lunch to be able to pass the tidal estuary in low tide(ish!). the walk was harder than we thought it would, with the weather proving to be problematic but the np itself was great, we all were so glad we stayed the extra night and the extra money to do this cos it was awesome. the final few kms were hard but the drinks and rest at the end of the day was sooo worth it. we all crashed on the taxi back, but the night was spent in the bar watchin italian job with the duo and kate too.
mon 10th (nelson)- a free day in nelson to chill out and relax before the bus arrives tonight. i went to the library for free internet and then food shoppin. had to buy a new camera cos mine was broke, dodgy lense or summit, and then into the musuem too. oh and we saw the jeweller who made the rings for lotr! ace!!!!!! got back, the kiwi bus had arrived and it was busy, walked to the centre of nz for sunset, but it was too cloudy so i ate tea and went to the bar for drinks which quickly evolved into bar games, and then goin to a crazy lil place givin 4 beers and a shot for 13 bucks well cheap man! and then the dodgy jokes started comin- i wont lower my blog site to publish them but the males will find them funny! after sharks and some pool it was over the road for more drinks and dancing and then home.
tues 11th (westport)- the morning consisted of a quick trip to nelson lakes national park for a cool bush walk before we had lunch/ picnic over looking the lakes and snow capped mountains (kinda like that pic nana S has/had in their lounge) so many pics were taken at that place plus we fed the ducks n swans. there was another lil walk before we went to the buller gorge for a jet boat ride along the river. it was wicked they did somecrazy things on the boat and got really close to the waterfalls and the rockside...this is instead of the shotover jet at queenstown which is shorter and more expensive, so it kinda made sense really. we all got totally soaked but there are some wicked pics taken, and my camera stayed nice n dry(ish!). back to the hostel, pasta for tea before we played drinkin lotr...greg kinda peaked and troughed within 20mins, and ended up blind drunk and on the white telephone for a good period of the night- hey ho, when will we learn!!!
weds 12th (???)- all my clothes were dry after the night next to the fire (the clothes not me!) and then copious amounts of walkin managed to blow away the remaining cobwebs, which werent too bad, we got to see some more nz fur seals and piss around on the beach. a few more walks before we headed to the poo pub- its got a diff name, a real name but i aint got my book with me so that will do! at this place we had arrnaged to have a fancy dress night, with super hero theme, me and shaun went as .... SUPER MARIO BROS!, i was luigi and the outfits looked wicked. we all went to a charity shop to get clothes and then we hacked up a green tshirt to make dungarees and then i used the excess to make the green hat- very stylish! there were a few pretty cool designs inc super chav and super chavette (nicole and becky), there was a bee (bday girl jenni) and a giant kiwi (kate) there was much fun to be had, manu drinks drank and plenty of tales/ stories and dancing! the night ended with me, kate and nicole walkin to the lake down a very dark lane- it was too dark to see the lake in the end, and then me, nic, jenni and lisa plus adam and karl went to the beach for star gazing and streaking. it was a wicked night and everyone had a wicked time, such laughing and so many great pics! we played rugby on the beach in the afternoon too.
