Hellooo, if you havent seen our photos yet then have a wee look. Just click on the 'photos' tab at the top. We havent uploaded that many but we have taken a selection from the photos i have up til now. It took 2hours and 40 mins to upload them so you better appreciate it haha.
Mum (Jacqui), it was good talking to you last night. I will try and find somewhere that will sell me a phone charger. Might just buy a cheap ass phone here though and a local simcard. Will work out the same price.
ANYHOO..
Well last time i updated this was in Kisumu, Kenya. We are now in Tanzania in a place called Arusha. Im not sure what I have told you all already so if I repeat myself then I apologise...
We visited Lake Nakuru National Park, in Kenya last week. L.Nakuru is known for its vast population of pink flamingoes, and boy was it vast!! Thik there is a photo of Jd and I, and a mass of pink behind us... if you look closely, you'll see that they are actually flamingoes. We saw lions with cubs, rhino, warthogs, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and even a leopard.. amazing!!
We were staying at Kembu Camp and when we returned the place was flooded. Or tent was comletely soaked! So... jd and I, along with American Jeff, and Frenchie Benny upgraded to a lovely little cottage house. It was amazing. I have it on video. Probably wont seem as amazing when I get home, but at the time it was fantastic!
We left Kembu and headed to Lake Naivasha, staying at Fisherman's Camp. I had stayed there five years ago, and it hadnt changed one bit. We went on a boat trip on the lake and took a walk on an island amongst zebra and giraffe. We also tooka walk round a crater lake with even more flamingoes. Aware all the time that buffalo were about, or so we were told by our dodgy Kenyan tour guide Michael... will explain all when we get home. But I think i almost made him cry!!!
We chilled at Naivasha for a while and then headed off to the Masai MAra in southern Kenya.
We stayed at a camp called Acacia Camp, and got up early for our days game drive in the mara. It was pretty cloudy so unfortunately we couldnt really see the sunrise, but im guessing it probabl;y did happen haha. We saw elephants, more lions but this time with a kill, a cheetah with a cub, and we even saw the famous migration of wildebeest and zebra. It was amazing. Stayed in a place called Narok that just outside the mara and in themorning the 5 frenchies, 2 danes, and an indecisive American Jeff (love u really haha) left for Zanzibar early so they could have more time on the beach. They hadnt planned their flights very well and would only have had a day on Zanzibar, either that or they had misunderstood the itinerary.
The rest of the group headed back to Nairobi where we went to the cinema to see the Simpsons movie and had a lovely dinner in a really posh place called La Pemba, a Brazillian BBQ place. You could eat as much meat as you wanted, and they brought it round to your table. If you wanted food you left your mat up green, and if not, turned it to red. It was enjoyed by all.
Chilled at Karen Camp for a while and also visited the Elephant Orphanage which, of course, I loved!! Have loads of photos of baby elephants. Think I uploaded one. Said bye to Eng Jo and Dutch Seb and also picked up three new passengers; Korean Hi Jin, Eng Becky, and Polish Michael. All three seem really nice.
Team is now very small, but its great having that much space on the truck!!
Arrived in Tanzania on Monday and we're staying at Masai Camp in Arusha. Its very nice here. Still rains though but mainly just during the night so its not too bad!
Oh, Jd and I bought matresses for in the tent hehe, our little bit of luxury. Those tesco sleeping mats were s***!!!!!! I shall write and complain when I get home!! LOL.
So, we leave here on Friday morning at 5am (getting used to these early mornings). We head for Dar Es Salaam which is the capital of Tanzania. We're going to a fish market which is apparently absolutely crazy so yeh... should be fun. Then we get the ferry across to Zanzibar YIPEE. Will blog it up again there!
Oh, meant to say, Gav (the tour leader driver guy), is going to film the trip from here on down to Jo'burg. He made a movie of the trip from Nairobi to the gorillas and back last year, so he's doing the southbound trip this time. That will be great coz we;ll be in it and get some copies. Will get a copy of his other one too coz its hilarious!
Righty, think thats everything we needed to tell you. Jd wants on computer now to check email.
Take care, and keep the messages coming! They make us laugh!
Lots of love,
Ash and Jd in Tanzania xxxx
