helloooo everybody.
really sorry its been such a long time since the last post, the last two weeks have flone by.
the end of our last trip we were on the move everyday so was hard to stop on internet.
the 26hour train from shanghai to yangshou wasnt toooo bad, we survived. yangshou was a really cool little market town, alot quieter than everywhere else we've been and not so populated. lots of backpackers!
when we got their we just explored for the day, the fawlty towers guest house was smal but comfortable and we really liked the town. we went out with the group in the evening and alot of the restaraunts did western food, the first for nearly 3 weeks!but ash and i resisted and had chinese whereas alot of the girls had pizza and stuff! ash and i played pool in a bar after i had won the table of an israli dude who was running it, winner stays on, so i beat him with 5 balls left and me and ash played. then we played doubles with the israli and an american, a weird old french dude and a red indian, and played dice games with three weird swedish girls, was a good night.
the next morning was when we gave in and ash had a burger for brunch and i had a awsome full english, the whole works, good times! but we deserved it having got up at 9am to go to a kung fu lesson which was really good fun and really hard work. that day was bit more exploring and shopping and we found a really cool little mountain in the middle of a quiet park so we decided to climb it. it took 20minutes and we got an awsome view of yangshou. that night we went fishing on the river with a local fisherman and his birds which i cant remember the name of. they dive down and catch the fish and then regergate them for the fisherman, was quite cool. some good pics too, they will be on here shortly hopefully, next couple of days. that night played pool at bar again, met weird german guy who had an internet wife and was openly talking about it! bit of a freak.
we left yangshou town on a bike ride to head out to the countryside for a couple of nights. we cycled about an hour and a half to a place called moon hill, another big mountain that we decided to climb. this one took an hour and we have never sweated as much, it was really enclosed and like a tropical rainforest! women from the local tribe climb it with you, trying to sell you water, theres a funny pic i got of ash talking to one!! then we cycled half an hour to a tiny hut where we stopped for lunch in someones house which was really nice. then we had an option, to go on a hard baike ride with the chinese tourguid or to follow the rep on the road as an easier option. obviosuly we picked the hard way and set off with two of the other girls. although it was really tough, very hilly and slippery, muddy and going through peoples farms and riding past bulls with inches to spare each side, it was well worth it. we got to a little river where there was a small waterfall and the view was incredible and we biked over the top of it through the water.
we arrived at the next guesthouse tired and hot so we grabbed a shower in time for dinner. this place was out on its own but really nice and had a pool table! all be it a bit wonky. we again opted for chinese food over western for dinner but then had eggs on toast for breakfast! that day we just chilled out which was nice and they also had a dvd player so ash and i watched 5 episodes of heroes season 2 which i bought for 2 quid in xian! its awsome but god knows when we'll be able to watch the next ones.
we left yangshou the next day by bus to guillin and then got another bus into the lonji valley. when we got there it was raining and we had to walk for an hour up to the guesthouse. when we got their we were soaking and the place was absolutely freezing! it was just a wooden cabin and you can hear every word of what everyone was saying all over the place. they had a dvd player but we were strongly outvoted so sex and the city went on for five hours so ash and i had a quiet night.
the next morning we bot christened the squat toilet in our room, hopefully thats the last time for a while! and we got dressed to find our clothes still cold and amp from the day before! we set out at 9am with a little local farmer named farmer tang who was quite funny. we trekked for 5 hours acroos the lonji rice terraces going through numerous villages on the way. it was slippery and muddy but thank god it didnt rain that would have been horrible. the views and pictures were wicked and it was nakering but worth it and the next village was more built up and guesthouse was better, although still log cabin styley. here we had lunch, chilled for a bit, had dinner and then were treated to a culture show. they sung and danced for us and then typically got us to join in, we wernt impressed. then even more typically i got picked by myself with another girl from the group rose, and got 100% totally, fully embarassed, felt like a dick, ask ash if you wanna know i refuse to talk about it.
the next day we left by bus to guillin train station and at this point 3 of our group have been sick, so were praying were not in a cabin with them! and good result, we werent and two others in their cabin came down with it overnight! trying to keep our distance from the infected at this point.
after crossing the border and everything we checked in to the ymca in hong kong which was actually really nice, huge room, swimming pool bar, the works. were happy. first day in hong kong we just explore the area near our hotel and the markets and stuff.
ive run out of time so will edit this soon come back for more alx
