Allie's European Adventure
Sorry it has been awhile since I have written. Busy, busy, busy! This past Friday we completed our first project, presentations and all. I'm not sure if I told you, but we were doing a basic piazza study. Analyzing/comparing/contrasting two piazzas in Rome. I was doing Piazza Santa Maria (near my apartment) and Piazza del Popolo. It was an interesting project, but I'm glad to move on to bigger and better things. We are starting our big project, for the rest of the semester. We were given a space along one of the major roads in Rome, Corso Vittorio Emanuele. We are going to be studying the space, building models, and then figure out how we would redesign our specific area to incorporate the history of Rome with modern modes of transportation (preferably more eco friendly ones - like pedestrians, bikes, electric bus lines, etc. It sounds like it should be fun. Next Monday, two professors from Penn State are coming and we will be doing a brief workshop with them - not sure of the details yet. Then after everyone comes to visit me (which is soon! yay!) we will be going on our big 10 day field trip to Barcelona, Paris, and Berlin. They decided that we should plan these field trips (which kinda stinks) so we've been split into teams of 5 to research our city and technically be the "tour guides" there. My city is Barcelona ... I know the field trip will be fun, I was just wishing someone was gonna take me around and teach me things haha. Thats enough about school though!
This past weekend my friend Brent and I went to Oktoberfest/Munich and stayed with some friends that I have. I met them because they came to PA to work on summer internships - so when I came over here we'd thought we'd meet up. Oktoberfest was fun. It was very very crowded and a lot of drunk germans! But the experience was cool. We also toured Munich some. We visited the English Gardens which were really cool (my favorite part of Munich). The park is bigger than central park in New York and its full of big fields and interesting little places to visit. One area of the canal that runs through there has formed a natural wave and there are even surfers! The water pressure builds up I think cause its an area where the water was just pumped under the road and coming out the other side. We also visited one of King Ludwigs palaces which had a lot of great paintings. The city itself is pretty cool, the architecture is a lot different than Rome. We visited main attractions like the Marienplatz. There will be pictures up soon. I didn't take very many sadly because it rained all day Saturday, and I didn't bring my nice camera cause I didn't want to bring it to oktoberfest! Cause who knows what might happen (I'm sure you can appreciate that Dad, haha). I don't know if tonight because it's getting late - but definitely tomorrow. Hope everyone is doing well, let me know how life is going in the States!
