Heyyy Chico´s!
So leaving Puerto was abit of a downer, meeting all those cool people and leaving them!:( but that just means a new adventure and more people to meet! It seems that most people traveling through Mexico either up or down, between Palenque and Puerto, stop off at San Cristobal..and we knew we were headed towards Palenque so it seemed daft not to stop off for atleast a day and check the town out!
The bus journey to San Cristobal takes about 13/14 hours, so we set off on the 6.30pm bus from Puerto over night to get there in the morning. A guy we met from Chicago called Mike (legend!), gave us directions of a place to stay, as he had come from there to Puerto and he said it was only 65pesos a night each..which is 3 quid 50p!. It was someones house that had another building at the side of it with a dorm room and three other rooms, a kitchen and a really nice big garden..These kinds of hostels are called Posada´s.
After a couple hours rest and check in, we decided to head out (in the rain people!), and see what we could in the one day that we had there. The town was like a little maze, all the streets were really narrow and the buildings all quite old and similar looking..it was like a cross between York and Venice, but without the water..and English people lol San Cristobal is proabably the most religious town we have ever seen. There are temples everywhere, and nearly everyone is either wearing rosary beads, or has them hanging from their car rear view mirrors!
The only thing we really saw were all the temples and religious statues which looked really nice, so we have mainly photos of those, and even though it was cloudy, there were still some great views when we headed up hill. We also managed to find Burger King, and so got a few party hats on the go whilest we sat and ate!:D haha
If you wanted fruit, then you were in the right place too, we got bananas for 5p, and they werent like the poxy ones you get in England either..these ones you had to dislocate your jaw to get your mouth round! haha Mango´s are a local produce for Mexico too, so they were just 10p, and great for your insides aparantly!?
So not much was done in San Cristobal really, but when you finally see the photos, that will explain alot more about this beautiful little town! Next stop Palenque, aka the jungle! stay tuned for more updates..hopefully we can keep on top of it now we´re up to date with these blogs!
Asta luego hombres y mujeres! xox
