Tom here, merry xmas to everyone! A fine day was had by all, and hope everyone back home had a great day too.
Anyway from where we last left off… The guys went into Fremantle to do some shopping, I went off to the cricket (Australia v South Africa), in the process meeting my godfather for the first time since I was christened. Was a fine day, even though the cricket got delayed twice due to rain (Would you believe it). Anyway a few VB's later I made my way home, with a big tray of lasagne waiting upon my arrival; Magic…
Following day we took a trip into Perth. A lovely city. Spent lunchtime in a lovely park called Kings Park which had some fantastic views of the area. From there we took a train to Cottesloe to meet our friends George and Rory who we met in Asia. Now the brits have a bad reputation for binge drinking, but nothing could prepare us for the state of this place. All the ozzies were wasted at around 6pm. Saw many a fight, many a lairy Ozzie male, and a big brawl outside a pub. We took the safe option, bought some bottles, and drank in the sunset with some fish and chips. Just to even the score we then met two brits who had stole a bottle of jagermeister from a drive-in off licence, and could barely stand up. However there was still time for the ozzies to reclaim the lead, with three blokes barely escaping being run over by a train. A hefty fine was handed to them; The Perth transport police - Tough, tough but fair.
Monday came and our first task was to hire a car, this failed spectacularly due to price issues, and availability. So we cut our losses and headed to the Fremantle prison. A fine prison I might add. Many tales of escape, death, and a man who took a bullet where the sun doesn't shine were told. Next up was the shipwreck galleries, big boats and all sorts of buried treasures…The big purchase of the week followed, a 5litre box of wine for 15 Dollars (8 Pound). Bit of a bargain.
Tuesday took us to the ferry, and a trip to Rottness Island. Following the most salty fish and chips we have ever tasted, we spent the day on a fine beach. In the process we got to meet the Ozzie version of santa, who was probably drunk, and really couldn't be bothered. Probably a little warm in his thick suit… A bumpy ride home led to a few complaints of sea sickness, but we made it home in one piece to enjoy some fine rump steak.
Wednesday started off slowly, about a 3 mile walk to find a bbq. To raise spirits a trip was taken to the little creatures brewery. We splashed out on some mussels, a pizza, nachos and fries and shared them round. This was followed by a tense game of bocce (Slight variation of bowls). Gemma and myself took the victory in an epic encounter. Even better news was to follow as my mate Johnny is meeting us in Vegas to bring the party to 8.
Happy XMAS! Its 28 degrees and we are off to the beach armed with a BBQ, couple of homemade windbreaks, beach cricket gear, lots of meat, lots of drink, and a santas hat. To our amazement this was actually a success, despite the strong breeze the BBQ was roasting, the burgers (Lamb, mint and Feta - Good choice) were hearty, and the wine went down a treat. Too much of a treat for some people it would appear.
As I write it is now boxing day, the chicken is roasting, the potatoes are crisping up, and the stuffing has just gone in. This feast shall be followed by a final big night out in Fremantle tonight with a couple of friends,
Its been a pleasure writing to you, and I wish you all a very happy new year! x
