Today I arrived in Chicago. I wandered wearily off the plane from Japan with a pounding headache and strong, strong desire to be home. But I've got a few more days here until I'm back home, and I intend to spend them well. I ate dinner at a Chinese restauraunt and crashed at a hotel. Tomorrow I want to go home, but I have several more days until it's been 80, and I'm going to go sightseeing a bit more. I want to visit the This American Live Radio station, I've listened to their shows every night while I go to bed since I was ten, and it's finally time to pay them a visit. I actually don't have a plan for how I'm gonna get there or what I'm going to do, but I'm not leaving til I have an internship. Okay, well not really. But I'm going to at least try and meet some people. Well, it's been a long day and I have a lot to do tomorrow. So tonight, here are some historical facts about Chicago, and I will write again tomorrow.
The city of Chicago is a lot different today than it was when it was founded in 1833. The economy grew quickly because people realized that it was a key place in inland trade and so the land was bought up quickly. The geography of Chicago expanded as people moved in. Chicago became a hotspot for the ride of industry and commerce, and became the center of the nation's advertising industry. Chicago is actually called the "Windy City" because of its boasting lobbyists in government. The culture of Chicago was mixed because lots of immigrants moved there when they came to the United States, and even today it has things like "Little China" and other cultural attractions. Chicago has been a huge part in how the United States developed as a country.
