Anna's Big Trip
I just spent the day eating lots and lots of yummy Belgian food! Good thing I'm leaving tomorrow, I think I might of gained 5 pound just from today alone.=) Waffles, fries, mussels, chocolate, belgium beer....hehe, I do love a place that is all about good food. I'm heading down to Paris tomorrow afternoon and will stay there until I head out for South Africa...so so excited! I ended up meeting a really cool guy named Alec and his mom in Florence. We ended up traveling to Venice together. Alec is studing/working in Barcelona and his mother came over for vacation. We were supposed to leave in the morning, but for some reason everyone decided to go to Venice at the same time and all the trains were booked. We ended up catching a smaller intercity train in the afternoon. There were so many people trying to get on the train that we were stuffed into the passageway inbetween the train compartments and I ended up standing for over an hour before enough people got off so that I could find a seat. But I was just happy to get to Venice. I have found that after all of this traveling, I've become very comfortable with just going along with what happens. All the normal problems that are bound to occur when traveling all over don't really frustrate me anymore. I'm just always happy now.=) When I finally got to Venice I walked all around the beautiful city, getting lost in all of their small alleyways. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm going to love a city that has everything to do with water. I met up with Alec again and we had one of those fixed several course dinners and then hung out at a jazz bar talking long into the night. It was great to finally have a good long converstation with someone. Afterward we went to St. Marco Square and I got to see a really rare and beautiful sight...the square all lit up with noone around except a few musicians that were still drinking and playing after the restaurant had closed. It was spectacular. I will never forget that moment. Venice is a wonderful place and I plan on going back someday to experience it more fully. I however, had to leave the next morning for Brussels. My flight wasn't unitl 12:40, so I figured if the guy at the hostel said that all I needed was and hour to get there, then I would leave 2 hours ahead. However when I got to the bus station to catch a bus to the airport, I found out that the next bus wasn't coming for at least an hour and the bus took an hour itself, so I wasn't going to make the flight that way...so my only option was to take a cab, which cost 70 euro!! yikes. but like I said before, that stuff happens. I'll just have to be more careful next time. I think I'm just used to the efficiency of the UK, where it all started. But I made the flight, have eaten to my hearts content and seen the lovely Grand Place. Life is good.
