April's Adventure around the world!
You would think that the last day, would be happy and memorable. Kos is a different place, I think like no other. The people here are not right in there mind.
My last night on the island started out well. It was the first rain within 200 days. It stormed and thundered like never before. I read my emails and found out that I had missed some of my scheduled flights. I was supposed to reschedule the flights in Athens. Oops! My chain popped off my bicycle (thats a bad sign for the start of the night). I went to Bar Street to pick up my last pay check. Nova Vita owed me €300. When I arrived Christos said that I do not get paid. He swears that he has me on camera stealing a bag of coins. What kind of Bulls*** is that!? We were yelling and arguing about the situation. I told him to show me the video, because it is not true. He lied saying that he had witnesses, the hidden camera, and he also said that I was fired from Tarzans because I stole money. It is all not true! This place makes me crazy. Blues Brothers and also Nova Vita have a strange way of being greedy and not paying the employees. They blame you for something that you can not prove, nor do anything about. I went to the police, but since I was working illegally, there was nothing that I could do. The police explained to me that this happens all the time. Next time I must get paid daily! The thought went through my mind, do I have an alternate personality who is a thief? Am I crazy? That is not possible. I was told by two Greek people that if I have not been paid yet, then I probably wont get paid. No one knows greeks better than greeks themselves. My employer knew that I am an honest worker. He also knew that he could get away with what he did, because blues brothers got away with it. I was also leaving the next morning. I dont care about the money. I was just so upset that this happened to me for the second time here in Kos. I cried for half of the night. What is wrong with these Greeks? They have no heart, no concious, no regrets, decietful, liers, theives, greedy and think of no one but themselves.
As soon as I rested my head on my pillow, it was time to go to the airport. My eyes still puffy from the night before. When I arrived at the airport my name was not in the system. What a shocker, more difficulties! :) luckily, all I had to do was get a manuel ticket issued to me. After waiting for about one hour, I learned that my flight had been delayed for 4 1/2 hours. Go figure, as soon as I think I am getting off of this cursed island, it finds away to keep me here longer. Its like a TV show. Stay tuned for the next disaster on "My Life in Kos". The pilot previously landed to hard, and broke the landing gear, so we had to wait for the mechanic to fly in and fix the wheel.
I have had more bad luck on this island than one person should have in there whole lifetime. My room mate also tried to scam me out of paying too much for rent. Come on, I may be female, but my math skills are not that bad. Since I did not over pay like they wanted they cursed my Karma and made a big scene at my work. My boss and ex-room mate faught and he got kicked out. Never a dull moment here in kos. Greece used to sound like a nice place to be, but after living here the seeing a table full of empty frappe glasses, an ashtray full of cigarettes and olive oil makes me nausiated!
I need to clear my head of this place. Here I sit waiting at the airport with a swollen foot, emotionally exhausted, not much money, and desperate to get off this island with my sanity.
I am excited for Holland!!!! :)
