April's Travels
Okey dokey.
We set off in the morning for Death Valley. The scenery is so good. Basically all desert. We drove paractically all day through. There are snow capped mountains around, winding roads and lakes and canyons. Lots to see. We stopped off in a tiny town en route and got a massive piece of Berry pie, lush lush lush. Then we drove into Vegas about 10pm. We hadn't booked anything, not too sensible. We headed straight to the MGM Grand, you have to set your sights high. The rooms were rather expensive and the man behind the reservations desk was rather rude to me. Ok i had been travelling all day and didn't look my best but still. So we marched out, i tried to persuade Steve that the Motel 6 just along the road was an option at least for one night but oh no, he wasn't having that. Most places were looking full and then we saw Hooters. That good ol classic. The Hooters Hotel. They had a room, it was fab so we stayed there all three nights. I think i am a cool girlfriend. Steve got to walk around the hotel the whole time full of girls with their boobs and butts on display!! Hilarious.
We got food about midnight in the restaurant, then crashed out. Everyone rises late in Vegas so we did too. Sat out by the pool in the morning, the weather was so sunny. Then we mosied along the strip. There is so much to do in Vegas the place is one fantastic toy town. It's basically all hotels that have a theme and malls and restaurants inside. If you saw any of the hotels anywhere else you would think it bonkers. Bus that's Vegas. They have artificial grass along the streets that they hoover!! Everything is man made. We went to New York New York, Paris, Aladdin, The Bellagio and Caesars Palace. All were in the self explanatory theme. The Bellagio has fountain displays every half an hour to music, which was ace. We checked out the casinos and watched some roulette to work out how you play. That night we both had stinking colds but we went out for pasta late and got some beers, were going to bet but it was so crowded so we didn't.
However, the next day we got on a roulette table and i had a strategy. The minimum bet was $10 so we put in $20 and you know roulette, you place your chips on the numbers and wait for the ball to fall. I said right, we will pick three at a time so we have quite a few go's. My first 3 came in, i got $35 dollars back (wanted to cash it in straight away but thought we'd try and look like pros) then steve's turn, his three came in so we won another 35 bucks, brilliant. Then the guy realised what we were doing (non intentionally) you had to put down 10 chips at once, hence the $10 min bet, i thought that just meant you had to buy $10 to start off. Oops, so we had two more rounds of bets then i sheepishly said "please sir can we cash in", we skipped off with $60!!! Yippee.
That same day we went on the New York New York roller coaster which was horrific. It really nearly killed me, didn't help that the harness pushed me down so far i was slouching and the whole way round i couldn't scream i just wimpered and answered "Yes" to Steve asking me if i was ok. I clearly sounded like i was dying!! My stupid ideas.
The next day was the helicopter ride. With my birthday money i booked a helipcopter ride of the Grand Canyon. Never been in a helicopter before and i am now addicted. Steve and I got the front seats with the pilot and it was amazing. We flew over the Hoover Damn and right into the Canyon. It's just the best feeling ever when you are flying close to the ground and all of a sudden a basin opens in front of you and you are 100's of metres above ground. So good!! The Grand Canyon was really fab to fly through!!
That night we drove back to San Fran late. We left about 10pm after driving the strip a few last times (we didn't want to go). On the way back we were soooo tired. We pulled over to get coffee and burgers!!! At one point not to far in Steve pulled off a curb out of a gas station. You would have thought it had the low point for you to drive off but it didn't and we smacked the front of the car down oops!! After a bit of fretting (and no dammage) that pretty much woke us up and we were nattering away the whole way back!!
