12th AugAfter working quite closely with the form building team yeasterday who were putting up a toilet block i decided to spend today doing what is known as the pour. Basically what we had to do was fill a 2m high steel structure with concrete. It didnt seem too bad as we had to just shovel loads of sand and rocks. The cement mi+er then mi+es it and we had to carry buckets of cement 20m to the toilet block. It was really tough work and the buckets are so heavy but we coped. After only 2 loads the bloody cement machine broke and so we ended up having to make up cement by hand which was physically the most demanding thing i have ever had to do. We had started work at 9am and finally at 8pm we were finished. The toilet block was nearly finished with only plumbing to go and so by the following evening 30 families who had beeen with out sanitation facillities now had something to use.I got back grabbed dinner and a quick shower (outdoors!) before going to catch the bus to lime for my flkight later that evening with George and Sean. After waiting ages and getting sliughtly ancious that I wouyld miss my flight we finally got on a bus followed by a taci to the airport.I managed to just make it through passport control in time to catch the last people boarding and was confronted by a very unhappy mike. He thought I had abandoned him!! Well I had thought about it :) The week apart was over!
