After driving from Queenstown, the Weather improved today, no rain and warmer than last 3 days. Picked up the shuttle bus that took us 7 kms from our hotel into the National Park and the start of signed walks of varying difficulty. Tom had his mind set on making it to the summit of Cradle Mountain - a walk/climb of about 8 hours (round trip). David and I intended to make for a spot called 'Marion's Lookout' - a 4 hour round trip. We had a text from Tom after 4 hours that said he was going for the summit! The walk we were on turned into rock climbing with a chain to hold onto for some of the way as the ascent got steeper. We finally made it and the views were fabulous. We then got a text from Tom who had gone on for the final climb, leaving Sarah with his rucksack at the base of the final rock climb. It took him a further 40 mins to reach the top where there was snow on the summit. He took some photos to prove it! They finally made it down at 7 pm and As we still had 2 hours to drive to next hotel, Tom slept most of the way. Exhausting but satisfying day.
