We haven’t had much internet easily accessible since we left Tuscany. We have had quite a few adventures to say the least.
Bologna was a great town with good food! We first encountered the city on our bikes after arriving to our campground. We biked to the city centre which was incredibly busy. The centre of town is a no vehicle area, so there were pedestrians and cyclists everywhere. We had a great dinner that night and then we wandered the town which was full of street performers and large crowds of people. There were lots of kids out with their parents until quite late. After our time there we had a little trouble getting home. The bus route changed on us, and we couldn’t read the Italian signs. Chiara noticed the sign, and with my phone we translated it to learn our bus had moved to another spot. But what we didn’t read was that the route didn’t go where it usually goes either. After a long bus ride around the whole loop, we took a cab back to the campsite. Apparently there was a big festival happening in town. We were told it was for tiles and thousands of people come from all over the world. We had a great cycle the next day in the morning just north of Bologna. The wind came up on us though, so it was a harder second half to the ride. We then went to an agriturismo up in the hills south of Bologna. We don’t need to put all the details in here, but it was in the middle of nowhere and it was challenging to find. We got there, and didn’t get a very warm welcome. Oh well, can’t have a good experience everywhere. The next morning we did a cooking class in town and learned to roll pasta with a rolling pin and on a wooden board. We had a great time in the class, and got to eat some of our pasta for lunch. We spent most of the time learning to make and roll the pasta. And we also learned to make lots of shapes tortoloni, tortellie, farfalle, ravioli and taglietelle to name a few.
Then we were off to Venice for the following day but we stayed in a tiny town outside of Padova. It was a very strange town with many big hotels and had the feel of a beach town or like whistler. But there was not beach and no mountain. We hopped the train the next day to Venice and wandered the streets and over the water ways all day long. The buildings were amazing – we walked through St. Mark’s cathedral in San Marco square.
Now we have made it to Alp di siusi in the dolomites and tomorrow is our big ride!!
