Day three of my overland truck tour and I realised that group travel its really not my thing. The group is okay only a lot if party among most of them, I was lucky though and share tent with sofie that's not that interested on partying either. The tour leaders are Leley (guide), Becky (driver) and quidolin (cook). The food made my qudolin is really good, my flavours. Becky gets a lot of attention driving the truck as a female, extremely rare with female drivers in east Africa. Leley is doing a great job as our guide, always happy and helpful.
Today we did a village visit to Mto Wa Mbo, the river of mosquitos. We got to know about agriculture and the crops they were growing, got to see wood carvings made by the Makonde tribe and tinga paintings. We also tried banana beer, not that good and had lunch prepared by the villagers that was really tasty. Had ugali and chapatis that I like a lot. I bought cooking cutlery in wooden carving made from mahogany and tinga paintings for my nephews. The village walk was interesting, although the most interesting part was to talk to the guides and get to know more about the daily lives and politics in the village. Doing this arranged village walks is quite staged and I don't feel comfortable walking through people's houses, i feel as an intruder. sadly enough some people seem to think that they never/rarely see white people and thats why the children grabbed their hands. Its sad enough that the world is not a fair place and that all resources are extremely unevenly distributed. The village walk is a part of tourist programme and they get white people there on a really regular base, maybe even daily. I would love to travel around with local people and to get to know local people and learn more about local culture, such as food, music and more.
