Ok, so it's been a busy few weeks since last time I blogged...I'll do my best to fill you all in!
So a couple of weeks ago, Caz and I spent a week or so in Manali, a villiage where some of the other vollunteers are working. It was heaps of fun! We lived with Mia and Lisa for the week, at their placement at a catholic school there. Caz and I had a little time to explore Manali and old Manali, which was cool, but I felt like I missed Tashi Jong quite a bit while I was away.
On a couple of the days we decided to go for a walk to a nearby town, Vashist, where there is a little hot water bath and a temple, at the natural hot springs there. We made this trip twice, and the first time decided we'd go in fully clothed to have a warm bath. There were only Indian women bathing there, and they were all bathing naked in the bath. We looked a little odd! Haha. On our second trip to Vashist we decided to go for the whole experience...haha. It was quite funny.
In Manali we all decided to get our noses peirced too, because practically every Indian woman has at least one nose peircing. It cost 40 ruppees...just $1!
We also made a trip to Bhuntar at the end of the week, on our way back to Tashi Jong. It was really good fun, because we spent the easter weekend with all the vollunteers at a monastery there. The monastery at Bhuntar made me feel even more homesick for Tashi Jong, because seeing all the new monks made me think of all the friends I'd made back at TJ. It really is awesome how many cool people I've met here, and from so many different backgrounds and with so many stories to share about their lives.
So after a weekend of lots of laughs, LOTS of chocolate and good times, Mati, Caz and I got on the bus back home.
Last week we had normal classes again, which was good fun, and nice to be back in the routine. We also had new tutoring classes with a few keen monks.
We had a pretty cool weekend, because we made friends with some Tibetan guys who we hung out with on Friday night and then went hiking with on Sunday. It was really fun! I think we'll end up hanging out with them most weekends now haha. Next weekend they said they'd take us up to Dharamshala for a picnic and some fun, and this guy, Ngodup said he'd take me on a bike maybe one weekend to the hot springs near by.
