We arrived in Rio for carnival and were welcomed with a nice little prison cell room...but if it meant experiencing carnival it would definitely be worth it! So we started our first night with a street party and a big thanks goes to Adam and Eliot, guys who we had met along the way, who had even got us costumes...what babes! We ventured into the streets of Rio where thousands of people gathered in all kinds of costumes, drinks in hand and dancing/singing like you would alone in the shower ha oh and not to forget the "lovely" Brazilian men groping you every step of the way...something that seemed like the norm by the time we left.
We got to experience the sambadrome where samba schools spent an hour each performing in amazing yet strange costumes in an attempt to win the competition. Even through the hustle and bustle of carnival we finally got to experience the sights of rio, the Christ the redeemer, sugar loaf and lapa steps which were all absolutely amazing sights to see...UNREAL!
After three days of carnival I think we were quite happy to arrive in Iguazu....still covered in glitter and very HUNGOVER! To top off our hungover day I even somehow managed to drop a full frying pan of chicken, what should have been our hangover cure all over the floor, gutted doesn't even come close!!! But if you saw the state of the outdoor kitchen I think that a 10 minute rule wouldn't even apply let alone a 10 second one haha. Experiencing the beautiful waterfalls the day after made the hungover journey well worth it though (think one of my favourite sites so far)...even if it meant trying to avoid being bitten by raccoons!
One thing I did learn during carnival though, is that if you decide to be that desperate for the toilet, try not to attempt to squat right by a van full of men who then applauded as you walked away....awkward doesn't even come close, yet we still saw the funny side in our drunken states...it's carnival after all. #keepingitrealforyouguys
