Anna's travels
Well guys, im leaving Darwin in a few days so I though it time I let you know what I have been up to in the Northern Territory. I have had a really smashing time up here. Nice Hostels, great people and fantastic weather...my tan has returned!!! Have spent a lot of time doing nothing but sunbaking, found a lovely piece of grass which has been my home for the last few weeks. Darwin is a lovely city (not that I would call it a city, NVC may be bigger) it's got lots of free or cheap things to do. There are fab markets nearly everyday, with every type of food you could think of. We have been there a few times. There is also an outdoor deckchair cinema which was lots of fun, even if the film was quite arty farty. Of course there are many a pub, so we have been doing what we do best a lot too! We have stayed in two great hostels with pools and stuff, however we have been sharing with some horny Swedish girls which is not so great when your on the top bunk above them!!!!
We also did a 5 day trip into Kakadu national park. It was so much fun, not sure I thought that at the time though. We were in a group with some really interesting people, all of them a lot older but they looked after us so well, im not used to being the baby!!! Anyway we saw lots of scary crocodiles, swam in some fantastic waterfalls and billabongs and did a fair bit of walking. We were also very lucky that on the second day of the trip, Arnhem Land (A part of OZ owned by the Aborigines.) had its annual open day. This meant we were able to visit some of their sacred sights, we went to a burial sight and saw some amazing 30'000 year old art. Another highlight of the trip was day four, when we went canoeing in Katherine Gorge. Vanessa and I did start of in the same canoe but we couldn't paddle in a straight line so we swapped and I went with the leg end that was Doug. He was such a character and lots of fun. However he decided it would be best to carry our canoe up one of the biggest rapids. So here I am, life jacket on carrying a canoe, when I slipped and lost my flip flop, then I slipped and we lost our barrel which had all the cameras etc in. I though they were a gonna but one of the Jap's on our tour jumped in the crocodile infested water and save them. My hero! The way down was just as eventful, we actually lost a canoe, but it was Vanessa and I who saved the day this time swimming to catch the canoe. Oh and on the way back we were taking on water, we made it back just in time but with Doug mostly in the water. All highly amusing and some great views.
So yeah the trip was great and I managed five days without a shower, real toilet or electricity, can you believe that!
Yep so we have basically had a great time in Darwin, but its time to move on as we are meeting some of ness's mates in Cairns and the Whit Sundays. We have managed to get a lift with some Scottish people, Laura and Fraser. They had found a relocation package so we are driving a 6 bed campervan with beds, showers kitchen etc to Cairns for free. (Other than petrol which shared between 6 should be grand) It will take about 5 days but will be fun, cant wait.
Im starting to forget what everyone looks like so if anyone has any photos or anything to send via email they will be gratefully received. Its graduation and holiday time now so im sure some of you can email me.
Lots of love
