Hi All! This is my last blog entry, it doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago I started posting my blogs. Anyway, at the moment we are in Bangkok and have one more day ahead of us.
Since my last entry we have been very busy. We flew to Phuket with out any problems and arrived in Patong, Phuket late Sunday afternoon. We rested a bit at the guesthouse and then headed out to have some tea. Well, all I can say is that Patong is certainly an experience - one maybe that I dont wish to do again in a hurry but glad that I have seen the sights. From the moment we left out guesthouse we were accosted by taxis, tuk tuks, restaurant owners and people offering 'ping pong' shows - (I won't explain what they are on here - I will reveal all in due course - if those of you who know what one is - we didn't go to one!) Patong is the busiest resort on the island and was packed with people - even though it is low season. It is low season at the moment as it is monsoon season. We stayed in Patong a few days, we had one day relaxing by the beach and the other day we went on a boat trip around some islands. The weather for the boat trip wasn't brillant but we still had a good day. We went and saw the island which is in a James Bond film (I have to say that I don't know which film) and we also had a guide who kayaked us around some caves. We went into a bat cave which I didn't enjoy very much! We had lunch on the boat too which was nice.
Then the following day we got a ferry to Phi Phi. Phi Phi is an island and takes an hour and a half by ferry from Phuket. We arrived on Phi Phi around ten and there was a man to collect our bags from us from the guesthouse. He didn't have a taxi just a huge basket on wheels and had all our bags in there and other peoples bags too. He pushed the basket for a while and then we all jumped in a small van to take us to the top of a hill. Our accommodation was like a tree house - we even had a huge tree coming through the bathroom! The weather wasn't brillant but we used the day to explore! The island of Phi Phi is just amazing! There are lots of little streets and there are no cars - just people on bikes!
On our second day we went on a boat trip. We went to see the beach where the film 'The Beach' was filmed. The sea was really choppy and meant the boat couldn't get into the bay - so they stopped round the back of the island and we had to swim to a ladder which we had to climb up. The swim was really hard to get to the ladder as the waves were so choppy. It was really hard to climb up the ladder too as the current kept pushing us into the rocks - we all recieved minor sratches. We then walked across the island to get to the beach. The beach was well worth the swim - it was just perfect. We had time to have a quick swim and to have a walk before we had to swim back out to the boat. We then moved to another location and we had a kayak, which was lovely. We then went to Bamboo island for a bit of snorkelling and then to Shark point for some more snorkelling. The sharks there are only small but we didn't see any. We did see some amazing fish, it was really hard to snorkel as the water was still really choppy and was hard near the rocks. I was taken out by a huge wave and decided to return to the boat before Anita and Naomi. We all had a really good day on the boat even though I did feel sea sick for most of the day!
The next day, we just went to the beach. The sun decided to come out for us and in the afternoon we took some drinks to have at the beach. The beach was just fantastic!
On our last day we got the ferry back to Phuket at 2.30pm. In the morning I just sat and read my book on the balcony of the guesthouse and Anita and Naomi went to do some more snorkelling.
Phi Phi island was just amazing, it has to be the highlight of Thailand for me. We arrived in Phuket and were taken to our hotel. It was a fancy hotel but as soon as we headed to our room we passed a large sign saying 'the ecomonical wing'! The room was still very nice and had clean towels and shampoo which I was gratful off as I have run out! We then found a place to book a bus to get back to Bangkok.
Yesterday we got on the bus at 2pm. We had a 4 hour journey to Surat Thani. When we got there we thought that we were going to be taken to a bus station to swap buses but we were just taken to a street. A man told us to follow him and then said that he needed 200 BHT to take us to the bus station, we had no idea where so had to jump in the tuk tuk. He then took us to the back of beyond, when we said that this is not a bus station he just said that the bus will be here at 7. Before we all got out Anita saw a girl who looked like she was waiting for the bus and asked her if she was - she said yes so we all jumped out and hoped for the best. A few minutes later some more people turned up - none of us had any idea what was happening. They also took our ticket of us and wouldn't give it back to us! We were all worried as we needed to get back to Bangkok. We just said and waited and amazingly the bus turned up and it was the one we had paid for (as we went for the more expensive option as it was a long way). Once on the bus the rest of the journey was fine, we made the usual stop at one of the service stations. I have to say that I am glad I never have to see one of the service station toliets ever again! Anyway, I slept quite well and was woken up by a loud song playing - that was our signal that we were in Bangkok. We were confused as it was 4.30am - we were told that we would be getting in at 6am. Anyway, we all got off the bus and went to our hostel - luckliy they had a 24hour reception. We had to wait until 6 before we were allowed in our rooms. Once in our rooms we slept until about 11am and the headed out for food.
We went to the huge shopping center for lunch and also went to see 'Night at the Museum 2' at the IMAX which was really good. We then had a wander around some shops and headed to the Hard Rock Cafe for tea to celebrate the end of the trip. We had one more walk down Ko San Road and I am now here typing my last entry.
I have to say that I am looking forward to coming home now to all my home comforts - I have had enough of being smelly and sweaty all day long (lovely I know!) and can't wait to have a decent cup of tea again! Smell aside, I have to say that I have had the time of my life on this trip and I would do it all over again if I could! Also I have to say thank you to Anita, Naomi, James and Rob who have made the trip so memorable.
Well, there is my last post. Hope you have enjoyed reading my entry's as much as I have enjoyed typing them. I will be adding photos to this soon as the computers out here haven't been the best for uploading pictures and I am sure that I will be seeing most of you very soon so I can show you my photos then.
See you all soon. Love Anna x
P.S Mum and Dad - you won't miss me at the airport! x
