Magnetic Island was just what I needed after my stressful sailing! The whole island is beautiful, like being in paradise! The island is covered in lush green hills with numerous bays dotted around the whole island boasting palm trees, white sands and blue blue sea!! Our hostel was great (base), we all felt like we were on a holiday programme – the rooms are in little cute huts and the hostel itself opens out directly onto a beach bay and sea front, so relaxing and chilled out here its great! Theres loads to do from snorkelling, diving, hiring a scooter, hiring a mini jeep, walking, cycling or just plain ol' sunbathing!
When we arrived 2 of the girls I was on the bus with hired a mini jeep so we went cruising around the island, the views as we drove round were amazing! Theres not many bays to visit and the island is pretty quiet so it didnt take long to get round. Found a hidden waterfall, apparently last week before all the storms there was no water in it, now it flowing freely! So nice just to jump in and cool down for a while, we were in our own little oasis, couldve stayed there all day!
It was so so hot, probably the hottest Ive experienced in Oz so far, chilling at the hostel was great, just lazing by the pool with music playing and a bar right beside us, cant get much better than this! Quite a few people here who live in oz who are just chilling out for a few days too. Definitely a great place to chill out for a few days, thats why its called magnetic island, cos once it pulls you in you wont want to leave!
But leave I did and headed up to Mission Beach which the driver told us on arrival is Cassowary territory - the most dangerous birds in the world! Ive seen them at zoos and stuff, they just attack for no reason and gut u with their foot claw, nice, I'll be staying away from them then! The hostel again is really nice here, staying at such cool places ha ha! And as most of you know I had one thing on my mind in mission beach - skydive! Yes being single on valentines day again finally pushed me to jumping out of a plane! Mission Beach is the best jump site in Oz and oh my god it was so so so so awesome! I wasnt scared at all not even when we were harnessed up and going up in the plane climbing to 14,000ft! It was such a perfect morning, bright blue sky and no clouds at all! Once the plane door was opened there was no messing around, sitting on the edge of the plane and before I knew it we were freefalling at 120mph - ARRRGHHH!!!! There wasnt even a chance to scream u go that fast, I had a solo cameraman flying round me with DVD recorder too and I tried so hard to smile but my cheeks were flapping all over the place (the DVD is so funny and well put together, being sent home so get onto my mum and dad if u wanna see it!) I managed to do a few thumbs up and the views were amazing, its just so hard to describe, not scary, no stomachy feeling like on Oblivion or anything, u are literally just falling out of a plane! After 60 seconds freefall the parachute went up and everything slowed right down to the point where me and Izzy (dive instructor i was attached to) could actually talk to each other. Looking down and all around me was the gorgeous sea, the beach, the town, it was just so spectacular! Izzy showed me how to control the direction we went in and that was cool too, the turns did churn the ol tummy slightly! So we slowly made our way down to a perfect landing right on the beach, i was so disorientated when I stood up and on such a high I didnt know what to do with myself! So that was my skydive, def recommend doing it and that was an awesome place to do it! Other than that my time at mission beach was spent on the beach or just relaxing by the pool!
Now Im at Cairns and cannot believe that Ive made it all the way up here already, its crazy! This is the northern most part of Oz for me and im here for just over a week. (On the way here we stopped at Babinda Boulders, a waterfall and rainforest place between the 2 highest mountains in queensland, and yeah they have bloomin huge boulders there!) I'm doing a 2 day trip to explore the rainforest at Cape Tribulation Sun/Mon and of course I have to spend a day diving and exploring the beautiful barrier reef on Thurs! So I'll let you know how that goes! (Dont worry mum, no more skydives planned just yet .... !)
Happy 80th birthday to Grandma, congratulations to Tine & Fred on your wedding, hope u have a beautiful day! Cant believe Im missing the party but I want loadsa pics!
