Well, this is it, EBC day, we left early to walk to Gorak Shep, have lunch then onto Everest Base Camp. My knee was really sore but I took some pain killers and Pauline lent me her knee brace. The landscape was totally different from when we left Lukla, there was next to no plant life, very barren. We passed some buddhist monks while stopped and then it started sleeting. We arrived into Gorak Shep just after 11:30am so when into our glamourous accomodation block then down for lunch, I managed to skype home and had a chat with Nic. It would have been the first time for a few days. I had the usual for lunch (Sherpa Stew) and got ready for the two hour return hike to EBC.
The trek to EBC over a track which was undulating then lad some steep parts and finished up big boulders before dropping then a climb to Everest Base Camp. The campsite is very desolite and with a sign Everest Base Camp and the altitude, we were all very pleased and a fair amount of relief that we made it. While standing at EBC and looking down the valley, we could see a storm coming towards us so we decided to head back to Gorak Shep and hopefully get back before the storm. I was exhausted after we made it and Ram carried my backpack back to Gorek Shep. On our way back, we passed the Poles on their way to EBC about 3:00pm. We finally got back to Gorak Shep and saw the other Aussie group and the Korean group. About two hours later the Poles arrived, they looked exhausted and their Group Leader descibed them as 'walking dead' !!! We had the usual for dinner (Sherpa Stew) and discussed the next day. Most of the guys were really tired and went to bed about 6:30pm !!! We were going to climb Kala Patthar which is 5600m and see the sunrise over the valley and Mt.Everest, we had to leave at 4:00am as it was a two hour climb and one hour desent, then we would be walking another 6-7 hours to Pang Boche.
