Going back to where you came from
I think that was the title of some music I once made, but it describes part of this day quite well.
It was delightful to wake up at 4:30am to head to the airport. Thankfully my bag had dried and it was usable again. The expressway to the airport was empty, and the driver was going even slower than our experience the day before (50 km/h). I'm sure he also closed his eyes more than a few times as he couldn't drive in a straight line and had to keep pulling the car back to the right lane.
We went through 3 variations of security before we got on the plane. Colombo airport is one of the most expensive I had ever been in though, we didn't bother eating as a small pastry was over £5, that might even beat Switzerland.
3 hours of plane-ing, and 1.5 hours ahead in time brought us back to Bangkok. We got stuck on the taxiway waiting for the gate for about 25 minutes. A guy on a previous plane in Manila said that bigger airlines have a higher priority over others when arriving/departing at airports. This was certainly the case he as I watched an Emirates plane land and come straight past us into its gate!
Immigration was also very busy, luckily some Arabs manage to figure out that if you just push past people in the queue you can get to where you want to go earlier. They sailed through whilst we waited in line.
We then collected our luggage and went straight back to departures to check in for our next flight! For the last few days before starting to head home we wanted to have a beach and a nice hotel to stay at. There are many Thai islands to choose from but when you are short of time, thinking about the cash flow and want to avoid it feeling too crowded then the options become less. I recommend Bangkok airlines though, lounge access is included in the price.
Our room overlooks an infinity pool, some palm trees, the sea and then Koh Pha Ngan in the distance ;) We had dinner at the hotel, feeling lazy after the last few days of travel. Mushroom red curry for me (It's been a while)
