Buko Pandan
I've really enjoyed the time we have spent in Malapascua, the surroundings are incredible and there seems to be less people than a normal resort. I don't like overcrowding and that was part of the choice for missing out Boracay, another destination in the Visayas that's very popular with tourists. I would certainly recommend it to anyone, even if you don't want to dive you can quietly sun yourself without a care in the world. Also I've managed to figure out you can get here a little easier by taking a direct flight from the UK to Singapore, then across to Mactan-Cebu airport to then take the 3 hour ride to Maya port and then a 30 min boat ride. Andy King Tourism Limited thanks for you for your attention during this public service announcement.
The boat journey back across to Maya was a lot easier, we bumped into a guy who offered us a trip back for 100 pesos each. The boat was waiting for us when we got to the pickup point and left fairly sharpish too. Just a shame Danny's car had a issue so we were greeted by some replacement taxi that was a bit more squished that what we were expecting. 3 hours later we were back in the industrial area of Cebu City, quite a contrast from the last 4 nights.
We went back to the mall (for something to do) and sampled their Pinoy (I think that means Filipino) chicken chain "Max's". We had some odd sweet potato fries, rice and some fried chicken. It was all very good (we tried some banana ketchup, so think Heinz + Banana).
I've been seeing adverts for a Pandan flavour donut I wanted to try but I've not actually seen it. So I settled for a Buko-Pandan shake instead (coconut, Pandan & crushed ice). Odd tasting but nice, Pandan is some green leaf thing by the way - mainly used in Thai cooking.
