Prabang
After another batch of breakfast noodle soup we took another walk to the Art Museum to see if it was now open but it was still closed.
There was another failed attempt at finding the food market we saw on tv a few weeks back. I asked the hotel if a certain market on my map was the food market, but I probably got an asian "yes" rather than a real one. Needless to say we solved our heat issues again with some more ice coffee and some sweet treats from a stall on the side of the road, which was the shape of a pringle but tasted like butterscotch and had some crunch to it, topped with some Italian meringue type mixture and something that might have been some fake fruit paste. It was probably better than I'm describing it.
After another larb for lunch we went and got a 30 min shoulder, neck and back massage. I found it stronger than the Cambodian and Vietnamese ones although I think parts of it mimicked a cat "pudging" on me!
There was just enough time left to grab some Laos coffee beans from the little coffee house we went to the day before, along with some macaroons from the shop that was part of our hotel.
The Vientiane domestic airport terminal was one of the smallest I have been to. It was our first propellor plane of the trip, that took us north over mountainous green landscape before arriving into Luang Prabang, which has been a Unesco world heritage site since 1995. The monk- teacher had told us a few days back that this would give us a "Proper Laos" experience.
We took our first venture out after dark, the night market covered the main street and was probably as big as Vientiane's one (although we only walked a small bit of it whilst trying to locate dinner).
As most of the food had been great up until now, I gave "Kuay Tieo Heiu" a go, described as stewed pork, meatballs, morning glory and cows blood. It was a really bland soupy noodle dish, even the extra chilli I added didn't help. The dark beer lao was much better though.
