Bin vs Gecko.
A lazy start to the day had us wandering out in the blazing sun around 11am. The temperature over the last few days feels like its picked up into the 30's but its hard to know when you only have a bbc weather app that lies constantly.
Like the previous night Kampot still looked sleepy in the day time, and was a welcome sight to us both. We walked up to the local market, passing a roundabout on the way that has a giant durian fruit as its centrepiece (there are lots of roundabouts here). Amongst salt flats and pepper farms, Kampot grows large stinky durian fruits, although I have yet to see a real one the size of the roundabout so I cannot confirm this as fact or fiction.
The market was even more of a maze than an asian shopping mall, small walkways and clothes stores that was similar enough to make you wonder if you had already walked past them. Tash made some purchases and we quickly headed for the exit, much sweatier than we had entered. Two glasses of Ice tea (about $0.40 each) from a maybe-Chinese place helped to correct that.
Lunch was at a Cafe that's part of a charity called Epic Arts, it helps disabled people integrate with society through various art-forms. Some of the older members also work at the Cafe. The food again was more western based, had a good ice coffee and "moroccan rolls" that comprised of spiced Aubergine wrapped in Filo. They had some cool T-Shirts too, but sadly not in my size.
The pool was needed by the time we walked back to the hotel. Had a green curry for dinner, some debate in my head if that's Khmer food as some places say "Khmer Green Curry". I doubt it though.
We had a baby gecko in the room last night, only a few inches in length. He didn't achieve too much, not many bugs to kill in our room. A larger one also came in before bedtime, maybe 3-4 times the size, although probably the same brain capacity as he ended up getting stuck in the bin for about an hour, with not much more than the occasional rattle as he probably tried to guess the way out. Gecko's, who'd have them?
