HUE, 6th Dec I arrived in Hue, the former capital after a sleeper train and it was a lot more comfortable than the Indian ones! At around 7-ish, dumped my stuff and headed straight out, vistiting the Imperial Citadel, one of the Ngugen Emperors tombs (and checking out the tank display). Then for the evening food. I headed to a place called lac Thanh, where the owner is a deaf mute, who can open 5 bottles of beer at once! The food was again great and for a bloke who can't speak, he creats a crazy atmosphere! 7th Dec (my Birthday). I had my noodle breakfast and went off for a motor bike tour of the town, heading up into the hills and backdrops of Hue, I saw loads of wonderful things as we were being driven past all the fields and popping in to a local school who sang Happy Birthday to me in Vietnamese! Then we got dropped at a boat that took us along the Perfume River to a pagoda, then back on the motor bike and headed back. Then I went for a meal with everyone, before moving on to the DMZ bar for a few sensible local beers, - no snake wine, just a few tequilas and other drinks and there I stayed for a fair few hours - most others headed home at a sensible time, but I stayed with the fella I'm sharing a room with called Ollie, who looks the spitting image of Vernon Kay.
