Red Mountain Golf Course.
This course is simply breath taking. From the moment you walk through the entrance greeted cheerfully at the door to the golf course on the other side of the club house with it's magnificent course views, this spectacular course will take your breath away. From a gently undulating and narrowing 379 meters par 4 opening hole to hole number 2 a par 5 with a 185 meter water carry for the drive and then uphill with the green tucked away half way up the mountain. The third a 150 meter par three is again 130 meters of carry. This time over grass covered rocks and tropical scrub land trees.
As you progress, the course just keeps getting better and if you are playing the course from it's full distance marks you will need to bring your "A" driving game if you hope to stay in touch with the par and not lose "all" your balls in the first nine holes. As you play holes 4 and 5 two brutal par 4s over 400 meters one with a water carry and on the left a lagoon the entire distance from tee to green. Another par 3 the with a water carry awaits a good shot with a rescue or three wood across water from the back tees playing about 198 meters.
Here at Red Mountain the holes just keep getting better and the best is yet to come on this 6750 meter par 71 course. Feature holes homeward are many. Most memorable are the 16th a ridgeback hole across the top of a mountain with falls both left and rightly off the fairway. For me this is the best hole on the course at 301 meters. (yes I birdied it! ). Hit a three wood into the fairway and it's no more than a sand iron to the green. Miss the fairway and it's trouble. The 17th is this courses feature hole and offers for a "hole in one", 12 nights in the course villas and play golf anytime and for a birdie, a stay at the Sheraton on Krabi island. It's a 169 meter par 3 with a 43 meter drop. Simply spectacular. I hit two clubs too many and flew the green into the rock facing on the other side. An 8 or 9 iron is all you need, just get it air borne and count the hang time. Turning back to the club house, the 18th is just a brilliant finishing hole, a tight driving hole down hill with water on the right. A driver, 5 iron and a wedge to finish what will be a course you will want to play again and again if only just for the scenery.
They slug you 6500 baht ( $ 215.00 AUD) for golf, a ride on buggy and a caddy. This golf course is not a walking course. Carts only. If you come with a friend just to watch you'll need a second cart and a caddie to drive so a total of 7500 baht (250.00 AUD) but it's well worth it! Bring your camera for life time shots on this spectacular golf course. I finished with a double bogey, bogey for a very satisfying 80. I only lost 2 balls. Good luck losing any less!
You will drive away from Red Mountain wanting more. I guarantee it!
