Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam
June 23rd - 27th, 2016
We spent the weekend attending the festival which was held at the Kim Do Royal Hotel, right in the centre of the city alongside a large pedestrianised street which was filled with people trying out the latest craze...hoverboards (like segways but without handles). We thoroughly enjoyed the festival, it being the most we've danced since leaving Melbourne and during our walks to and from the venue and our accommodation we were able to see most of the city sights...the Town Hall, the Municipal Theatre and the Saigon River. Other than a few shopping centres and a couple of markets, we didn't really find much else to do and once the festival was finished we spent our last day recovering our aching bodies and organising things for the next part of our trip.
Compared to the rest of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh is distinctly different, it is much more modern and honestly, boring! It has none of the quaint, old world bustle and feel of Hanoi, none of the charm of Hue or Hoi An and none of the attractions of Nha Trang...quite simply it isn't a city I would bother with unless I was going to the festival again as there is nothing here you can't find in a dozen other cities in SE Asia.
