Agra to Chanderie took longer than expected, 10 hours with a combination of sleeper train and jeep! Chanderie is very remote and they had never seen a white person 5 years ago! At dinner we went to our tour guides Khallibhai muslim family. The food and atmoshrere was great and to show how cheap it is in rural India local cigarettes were being sold for less than 3 p for 15. Sarah, Jon, Lauren and Carol all got henna tattoos from our tour guides daughter.
The following morning we explored the town and experienced the way of life. Visiting a mosque, palace, market and school. At the school the children recited the Indian national anthem and the alphabel in Hindi before wanting their photos taken. In the afternoon we had curry for a picnic with much fascination from the locals before heading further into nowhere to look at rock paintings upto 40000 years old. The locals there were obsessed with cameras, one stopping Brad from taking a photo of a buffalo. In the evening we went to a local hotel where there was a male, dressed as a female dancer for entertainment, then we were invited to a 9 year olds birthday party for a dance and cake because we were western.
Before leaving Chanderie the following morning Jon and I played cricket with the locals, they were so good!!
