Hello all Firstly sorry that we do not have any photos on the web page. WE have been trying but to no avail. we have been advised that there has been an earth quake in tiwan and this has caused problems with the internet. (i think it may just be very slow)
Well what have we been up to..........for starters we did not have a visa for China so they could not let us fly. They took our passorts and we applied for the visa straight away. it should have taken 3 days but they managed to do it in 5 hours. ALso due to the delay we missed our flight, but they managed to get us on the next flight with no extra charge.
When we arrived in china minus 200 pounds for the visa, we had to do passport control and customs, that was really scary with lots of forms to fill out.
I am not sure what is worse the culture shock to us both or the cold here. i think we under estimated how different it is here to hong kong. eg Us girls complain of continential toilets with holes in the ground...trust me they are luxury to the ones here!!!!!!!!!.
Well we ventured out yesterday sightseeing and saw tian an man square, plus it's friendly locals!!! forbidden city and some local parks. we stayed and watched the lowering of the chinese flag at sun set.
the guide book told us that in china the only things with 4 legs that they do not eat is a table and chair and it's very true.. the beer here is really cheep, it costs ahbout 30 pence for over a pint.
We went to see the great wall today. We visited an unrestored area and in some places it was not so great, especially with the extream cold and blustery winds. Some of the paths were only a foot wide with big drops down the sides. We did get to see and walk / hike / climb on some really great bits for 4-5 miles. We saw the border to mongolia and ate lunch in a family home. We really enjoyed the day, we have loads of photos, but as for now we need to go and rest our aching bones and muscles.
Take care and keep in touch
Andy and Lisa
