Hi, back again.
Still haven't found a great place to use the net, but am resourceful so will use what I have - which to be fair is enough.
Me and Pete are now in South America and having a qulaity time. I must say that I am fairly disappointed with myself that I have only have only been drunk once, and that's not because I am a hardcore drinker but because we have been doing so much sight seeing that we have been too tired to go out and get on it. (I still haven't had a lay in, and for those who know me well will be very surprised by that) Sight seeing seems more important than sleep - I can't believe how much I'm changing.
I will write a list of some of the things we have done so far and hopefully the pictures will put the meat on the bones.
We got to South America on Friday and the first stop was Lima. We walked out of the airport at 2 o'clock local time, jumped into a taxi and to our hotel. We have been really lucky with accomodation so far (Except under one bed there was a wooden box filled with leaved and a pot of powder - I still haven't found out what it was for, although had convinced myselt it was for big arse spiders) and also with the tour group, as they are all fairly young and seem to be a good bunch.
Our first night was spent in a three-four star hotel, which was good and we are lead to believe that this sort of treatment will continue.
I don't know if it's me being naive but I wasn't aware of the level of poverty here, especially in comparison to North America. It is so cheap and everyone seems very friendly. We got a full meal for around a pound and in the words of my good friend Leon "A BARGAIN" - I think we all agree with that.
Anyway I am now a wiser person (in comparison to before anyway)
We went from our hotel on a bus to Pisco, which was absolutely incredible. The drive to the place was so strange, there was so much to see from semi built up towns to vast desert in a matter of miles. Also the views that you see are amazing. There was a great sunset and the sky went a deep red and orange. I couldn't believe the amount if waste land and desert, but let's be honest my travel portfolio is fairly limited.
We arrived in Pisco and got to another nice hotel, had some food which was very nice (However seems to be very hit and miss out here - I had one steak that looked like an elephants ear - I felt like I was tearing in to Babar)
We then went on to a local bar for some what should be illegally cheap drinks, saw some authentic African/Peruvian dancing (The mix is from the time of slavery and cotton fields etc) They even got Pete up for a dance where they dance with candles and hang a tissue from the back of trousers and try to set light to it (the bloke obviously thought Pete would look good in Flames) Pete survived due to his prowess on the dance floor (Or luck - You decide) Any way after heavy night we thought we'd missed our nature tour of a local island (Ballistas Islands). It turned out that we had smashed the tour guide up so bad the night before that he slept in as well.
Any way, we made the tour and saw the local wildlife, from birds, penguins to Sea Lions, however I must confess to flagging early on and falling asleep for a bit.
We then went on a tour of the old Pisco brewery, where they use to make the drink that had destroyed us the night prior (Pisco Sours) very much like lime juice which a hint of what can only be decscribed as devil juice. Very Strong.
From there, we went on to the sand dunes to do some sand surfing/body boarding (Photos don't do justice) This was qulaity because the guides took us on the twenty minute drive in a sand buggy at stupid speeds, up and down the steepest hills, and then gave us the chance to use snow boards to get down from a couple of high peaks. The first hill was bad enough and then they took us to a hill that seemed to have a run that was a good 150 metres (It was great though - except the pain of the sand blasting your chest and grazing your toes as your feet hit the ground. I definitely recommend it though. Pete went the furthest (He must have a very aerodynamic form)
After this it was a three hour bus drive to Nasca, where we had some dinner and a couple of beers then hit the sack.
That brings us on to today. I woke up on time, went down for what can only be classed as a questionable breakfast, then onto the coach for the fun to start.
The agenda for today was to see the Nasca Lines, which are in the desert and are similar to the crop circles and can only be seen clearly by plane. Then we were due to go on to one of the Nascan cemeteries.
We took the small plane over the desert to see the images carved out in the ground (The reason for the hype is that there is debate as to how they got there i.e the ancient locals or extra terestrial activity)I can't say i'm overly fussed and haven't given it much further thought, but had a great time and again, saw some fantastic sights and scenery. These carvings range from an astronaught, monkey to a spider.
Next stop was the graveyard and if I am completely honest, which I like to be, I have very little to say about it and I'm sure the pictures will explain as much as I could.
There seemed to be some issue with grave robbers stealing pottery and also the textiles the end.
That brings me to this quaint internet cafe, where I am just relaxing and trying to recall all that I have experienced so far.
Signing off now, but will be back with what I hope to be another exciting episode in the travel blog.
