My first blog entry will be a bit rushed, time is tight when the server is as slow as it is. This is my 4th day proper here. it alreay feels like such a long time since i was in the uk, but i already feel much more used to things out here than the first day.
I can't explain well enough how different everything is here. Not only is everything so different, culture, climate, people, living conditions, but being so conspicuously alien adds to that. I've had a score of children running after shoting 'how are you' like a scene from the constant gardener. they are genuinly happy and excited about seeing you. A white person coming to africa must be one of the closest experiences to visiting an alien world as is possible. Any ghanian coming to the uk would also be taken aback by all the difference, but would not experience the same level of attention i'm getting here. It makes you feel like an outsider, but most people are very freindly and pleased to see you and speak to you. any white person who wonders what it must be like to be a celebrity should come here as it can't be too far off. there is also a phenominom where if you are ever receiving a little too much attention from a crowd, any fellow who you've been a bit freindly to is very protective and shoos others away. in general ghanians are very protective of their lone obruni.
working life is also staggeringly different. when you're at work only a proportion of that time is spent working. it's nice and laid back but not hugly productive. even i've had to get used to the conept, and have had to surpress the urge to do more work. very strange for brits.
fiifi (the man i'm staying with) and others have all been very freindly and welcoming and gerous, and have helped me settle in well, and looked after me greatly.
better go, will add more when i have time
