My faithful readers! I am currently sat on the floor in JFK airport. New York has been a crazy 5 days what with hurricanere Irene and all. Manhatten really is a concrete jungle, like somewhere I have seen before. and a place I would love to return.
My visit here has been bazarre. It started out with a day of shopping and brief exploration of the city that culminated in us climbing the rockafeller centre for a spectacular view of manhatted, central park and the empire state. Another great thing about New York is its food, and with pizza going at 99 c a slice its hard to resist gorging on my favourite food all day. Needless to say I have acquired a plump belly in my relatively short US stay that has adequately compensated for my weight loss in Nepal. Boy I need to get in shape!
Learning that Hurricane Irene was rolling in and that our flight had been cancelled that evening completely altered the dynamic of our trip and sadly tainted it somewhat in that saturday and sunday we had to take refuge in our hotel room and for the remaining time we have been trying to arrange transport home.
Things got back to normal quickly in Manhatted after a huge storm that I personally believe may have been overhyped by the NYC press. However this meant we could enjoy the city some more. Yesterday we took a boat out to liberty island to see the statue and conquered the Brooklyn bridge. We finished the day with a cultured glass of chiraz while watching the Phantom on broadway, Delicious!
Which bring me to my current predicement. My friends have gone home on BA1515, a flight which I was also scheduled to take. however a problem somewhere between BA and AA has meant that neither had my changed itenerary and I had no itnerary to get home. I was hurt, angry, tired and just broke down for 10 minutes. I couldnt believe it but gritting my teeth had to watch my friends leave me. I am quite desperate to get home, university classes having started and already having been delayed. The best option I had was my american PA Nina Baldacci Sloan who booked me on a flight for 8am the following morning. I have paid for this flight (or should I say Edwin and Kim have), an option I am willing to take to avoid being stook here until september 12th (the next available). I will fight my corner with BA and their hopelessness when I get home.
Looking forward to breathing in the british air and eating a sandwich with a sensible amount of filling!
